Justification

we are looking at the subject of Justification
also known as “To Make Righteous”
Romans 5:1 AV
1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
Romans 5:1 HCSB
1 Therefore, since we have been declared righteous by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Justification is a legal term To Make Just
to be declared NOT GUILTY
Justification is a 1 time act , of the grace of God, to a sinner
By God the Judge of the world
Abstract of Systematic Theology Chapter XXXV: Justification

Justification is a judicial act of God, by which, on account of the meritorious work of Christ, imputed to a sinner and received by him through that faith which vitally unites him to his substitute and Saviour, God declares that sinner to be free from the demands of the law, and entitled to the rewards due to the obedience of that substitute.

James Petigru Boyce
Systematic Theology § 1. Symbolical Statement of the Doctrine

Justification is defined in the Westminster Catechism, “An act of God’s free grace, wherein He pardoneth all our sins, and accepteth us as righteous in his sight, only for the righteousness of Christ imputed to us, and received by faith alone.”

Charles Hodge
When God declares us justified. He is saying that the claims of justice, so far as he is concerned are satisfied
God has declared the person perfectly righteous
Romans 8:33 AV
33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth.

How The Judge Can Pronounce Innocence

maybe your defence strategy is to keep the law
Romans 3:20 AV
20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
or I could explain to the judge, I’m really a good person
Romans 3:10 AV
10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
or the fact that my good thing outweigh the bad
James 2:10 AV
10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.
if some keep the law perfectly
or some other way to be judged righteous
then Jesus died needlessly
Galatians 2:21 AV
21 I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.
So if this is our defence strategy - we will be found Guilty
But God does make righteous
it is nothing inside of us
it is nothing that we can contribute to, to help along
But God has a remedy
Romans 3:22 AV
22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:
God gives us His righteousness
by faith we receive this Justification
In Jesus
1 Corinthians 15:3–4 AV
3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
by faith in the work of Jesus on the cross
Jesus being sinless was not on the cross for himself
Jesus was there for us.
the blood that Jesus shed on the cross
Romans 5:9 AV
9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
God can find those who have faith in Jesus to be not guilty

Lets Dive Deeper

What happened to our sin?
The Imputation
putting something onto someone else account
I want to impute $100 into his checking account
all our sin has been imputed onto Jesus on the cross
Jesus publickly paid the price of death for our sin
2 Corinthians 5:21 AV
21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
The righteousness of Jesus is Imputed to us
put into our account
Romans 4:5 AV
5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.
Isaiah 53:11 AV
11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.
So when we believe in what Jesus has done for us
God The Judge Declares that Justice is satisfied.
and we have the righteousness that that justice demands
God declares that we are accepted as righteous on the ground of what Jesus did
Justification is not sanctification
Justification- is
declaration innocent or guilty
not a declaration of holiness
not progressive
Sanctification is
most of sanctification happens after Justification
set apart
to be made holy
progressively made more Christ like
slow steady progress to the end, with our spiritual bodies

Justification is a One Time Event

there is a dividing point between unbelief and belief
John 3:18 AV
18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
at that point a person goes from condemned , to not condemned
not partially but fully innocent, Righteous in the sight of God
have been imputed with the righteousness of Jesus
never does one go back to be uncondemned
Turn to Romans 7: 18
There is no condemnation
Romans 8:33–34 AV
33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth. 34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.
Jesus is making intercession for us
Philippians 3:9 AV
9 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:
the law requires one to constantly go and make a sacrifice for ongoing sin
Colossians 2:13 AV
13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
we are viewed by God as righteous and treated as such
all our sins have been taken by Jesus
Romans 8:30 AV
30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.
“Glorification” is God’s final removal of sin from the life of the saints
removal of our sin nature
glorified bodies - Un-corruptible
at the rapture, our bodies in heaven
All who are justified are glorified
In Gods eyes its a done deal
when He justifies us - He Glorifies us
