9/13/2020 Acts 2:22-36 | Peter's Sermon Part 2

World in Jesus name amen. Thank you, Ricky and worship team. That was powerful. Man, I'm out of sight to go to Detroit anybody else. Let's go. This is what we're made for. This is who we are as a people we need this and I know despite what culture might say about traveling Jesus doesn't care because you really doesn't he calls us to go and Go Make Disciples no matter if there's a virus no matter if there's a evil King like Nero at the time when they were doing this and they're expanding the church. And so we're just so thankful that we have the word of God is our Compass. It's our moral compass it when everything's crazy. It just it's inside of the more it's something that's outside of us that comes inside of us. It's not there's no light within there's no it said that the Bible says that The heart is deceitful above all else not to trust it and that we need to trust something outside of our cells called the word of God and that tells us so when I'm fearful when I'm fearful when I don't feel like going on this Godlike. All right, you need to go you need to we need to go on Mission. We need to get out of our normal comfortable surroundings, and we need to go especially in a time like now. I didn't come up with that. Jesus did cuz he said to go and he said to go to Jerusalem to reach Oviedo to reach the just this week There's a a mob on campus and just people fighting and you know yelling at one another right in our own backyard. It's right here. We don't have to watch it on the news. It's right here in our own backyard people need Jesus in the the the the enemy says something like that are the enemy of the word for enemy or the devil is Diablo's. It's it's like they're just thinking like the snake, you know, you know how to tongue they divide. And what the enemy wants to do is he wants to he wants to divide division division. He wants to bring division in this church is already done in the world is already done on campus. He's already done it in the different places all in the nation's but we as a church a unified body which is the love is the glue for Unity and where do we get love from?

from Jesus Who gets the Define love? Yes, why is it important? Because the world is defining love everyday is defining love every single day defining sin. You're so funny your whole life. And if you want to take the cues from the culture, you will perish it will its is going to happen you will perish and I'm not just talking about parachuting not having a successful life. I'm talking about hell, I'm talking about like sit your sin apart from Jesus will lead you all the way to the Flames of hell for all of eternity. And I know that's like this is kind of church is this kind of church because we're about the word of God. That's what we're about here and end in Jesus is called us to preach his word not the cultures word and in the truth sets us free. So everybody wants to come to church. Talk to me free will the work sets you free. The word will set us free and we need to know the truth sanctify Us in this truth. It was Jesus's prayer. It wasn't originated in a man. By the way. It was Jesus's prayer. He saying look I want my people to be Sanctified in the truth set them apart father set them apart. This is like the agonizing night before he died. He's talking about he's praying these prayers for us and how many know that Jesus prayer did answer. It gets answered. Right? He does have that direct communication with the Lord and we have been set apart. So I know people you know people there's people in the streets that have been set apart in the truth and that has set them free from the bondage of this world of bondage of sin and that is so amazing. And so today like any other Sunday we're going to talk about Jesus and here's this quote. This is an incredible quote cuz I think they're so get it right into what we're going to talk about today. So a lot of churches today are excited about the Holy spirit that is fine. But the danger of that is to misunderstand the mission of the Holy Spirit the holy spirit always points Beyond himself to Christ. If you're in a Spirit-filled church, that does not focus on the ministry of Christ. Then you are not in a Spirit-filled church. Is that simple? The holy spirit is sent to empower the church to Bear witness to Christ to apply the work of Christ on the cross in terms of its Redemptive significance to all who believe the father sends. The son accomplished is the holy spirit applies the work of Christ our own life. on the day of Pentecost

But in recent days pray for our church in Japan, they really falling on some hard times it specifically even know nothing about their faith is wavering none of that, but just eat the attack coming from the outside and of course it's going to happen in a very unreached place like Japan but Samaria speaks of Detroit, we're going to go to Detroit Michigan because the Lord is called us to go to a place we want to reach Muslim the Muslim people. We want to give them the gospel and I want to show you today that it's just simply it's it's that simple just drifted talk about Jesus. When we talked about Jesus people are going to get saved because that's what happened on the day of Pentecost. The Holy Spirit was poured out as a sign that Jesus is who he said he was so that's it. That's is the framework and we're going in already. Okay. So turn your Bible to ax to 2236. Like I said, it was going to take us many years to get through the book of Acts, but it's okay cuz I I don't want to just skip over really important passages a minute and you know, the book of Acts is it is the vision of the church and we need a fresh vision of the church the way Jesus intended it to be Alright the background is that Israel? I'm going to get into the passage here in a second. But Israel long for a messiah how many know that Israel Law Firm decided that he'd they knew that one day. He would come one day. He would, you would set up set up his kingdom. He would Rule and Reign forever and Peter who is full of the holy spirit filled with the Holy Spirit. He announced that the last days have begun. And so Jesus the Messiah has already come he's he's proclaiming that because he's saying look you see this chaos. I was just got out of this little place called The Upper Room. We started speak any foreign languages that we know nothing about people started thinking that we were drunk and he's sane men of Israel. We aren't drunk. We are filled with the Holy Spirit and this this passage is speaking like he starts to read Joel 2, and he saying that the the Messiah has already come and bees are the beginning of the last days. The last days is his point here have begun. Same time you hear preacher like the last days are here. You know, it's like tomorrow here are there how many people have actually predicted the end of the world they were wrong. I mean even said that next one, right? I don't even know the times and Seasons don't ask me what my father does and he'll release me when it's time and there will be a day where he will come back. It's gonna be a great day for those you know him and a terrible day for those who don't so he's coming back as a what is a lion someone who's coming to judge. He's no longer the meek and humble. He has laser like eyes right Bronski beat his ass up there in his in his hand. He's coming back to judge. He's coming back to set things. Right and that is our hope right that is that is actually encouraging now, we don't have, you know, even arise UCF you're going to be judge you but let me just say this we are being judged. Why do I know that because whatever A Man shows he what reaps so when we show to evil, we're only going to reap it. We're going to reap judgment. And so that's not like a gloom-and-doom message. It's just the truth. It really is why you see such chaos, especially in our own country. Will you marry never seen that before is because we over the years is simply just still into it. And now we're reaping it. And now we can be a people who are are blessed with in that within this chaotic world to see that right. The Believers were blessed. They had favor they had protection in the course. There were Martyrs there was a persecution and all those things come with it, but we can hope and know that Jesus is going to come back and sit all things, right. That would be silly and make us look really bad is people but what I am saying is that he is coming back and these are the last days there are some say we're in the last days the last days sure maybe but if you really do dive in educating people make stupid state. When we actually we actually go deep in the word and we look at church history. The reality is pretty bad days long time ago. There's some pretty horrific days for Christians and they are challenging for us today too. But that the reality is is we are in the last days meaning that Jesus has already come and he's coming in that that means we know from the scriptures that he's coming back. So before Jesus came they were waiting for two events. We're just waiting for one. We can anticipate as they were anticipating the Messiah to come to set things right Peter saying hey just telling you something. He already came and I'm going to prove it to you. Okay, I'm going to go. So this was all right. Now in Peter saying men of his religion to these words Jesus the Nazarene a man attested to you by God with Miracles and wonders and signs. Would God performed to him and your meds just as you yourselves know. I don't know know know they knew this and this was ultimately Blossom me. I mean, they were angry at the beginning. I mean, we know the latter half of the story The People gets a butt. This is blasphemy to their ears. And the reality is that even though they did the same people that literally I mean we all we've all killed Jesus in one sense. You understand what I mean by that, but these people physically killed the Lord and savior. Jesus they literally killed him and he's saying that he saying hey you killing and hero how gracious God is. Look at this. I mean you can find God's grace throughout the whole all of scripture. God is giving them another chance. These are the people that literally physically cuz I like let's just let these guys Paris and then we'll start with another generation as long as they have a chance. They have a chance. So if you feel like you came in here to all condemned to feel like me and I just don't get it, right. This is a perfect place to come because you get to hear the the remedy you get to hear this you get to have a second chance and could you do that in the comfort of your own home? But we need each other. We all do that. That's why you sometimes see people praying for each others because we're encouraging each other with the work. All right. So men of Israel, listen to these words. Jesus has come so number one the life of Jesus sagada tested, which means he proved to them that he was the Messiah through what your miracles signs and wonders. And I'll say this that Miracles is is the word dunamis. It just means powerful Supernatural works wonders. You're like, what is a Wonder? Well, it's our reaction to the miracle when something amazing happens which by the way, it's you find a parking spot at the store is not a miracle. I and you are you know.

You got up you got understand. This is super super natural. Natural. Is there a natural to drive around for 10 minutes trying to find a parking spot? Hope you found one. It might be more maybe of a miracle for you to leave your house 10 minutes earlier.

But we are but this was this was bees were real Miracles people who are blind now see. People that were lame now walk people who are dead or alive Jesus rose people from the dead even as he walk the earth. These are amazing that the Wonder is that we should still be in Wonder of the ultimate Miracle with that salvation. It is never forget that church, please that is the biggest miracle that you can ever see today. You want to want to know I know that Matthew 7 says it like this that when people die, they're going to stand before Jesus me a long line of them and they go up to him and they said Jesus my Lord Lord Lord, and he says Lord was why do you call me Lord you prophesied you did all these things in my name. You did Miracles healed but I never knew you depart from me you workers of iniquity those who practice it and we all send but those who practice those were not born again. Why do I know that the real true Miracle salvation? And it's not the signs and wonders because you could do the signs and wonders and go to hell. The ultimate Miracle here is that you were once lost and now found your ones dead and now you're alive and that awesome. That's the miracle you should that is why we worship by the way because of that you do you get rid with a big crowd someone now starts to walk when they couldn't walk praise God. I just hope that guy knows Jesus. You see then it gets me the next Point signs. Give the intent of the miraculous work. It shows in other words a sign at this exit signs shows. You are just times pretty cool. We're not going to look at the exit sign all day long, right? I hope you and I hope it's pointed is something that you should do is go through the door leave. It's right. So when when Jesus did the Miracles they weren't like. Wow. Look at this amazing thing. I just did. But look to me and what I'm saying, I'm saying that if you believe in me, you have eternal life. So what happened? So another words in John 6 the miracle the feeding of the 5000 absolutely amazing. That's a miracle. What are the point to that use the bread of life if you eat of him you have eternal life. What about John 11 raising of Lazarus? That was probably a scene. But ultimately was he pointing to he says I am the resurrection and the life those who believe in me will live forever this guy Lazarus bummer for him he's dying twice, but for me I will die and I will resurrect I'll go to the father. I'll be the first born as it says in Colossians the firstborn among the dead. What is he saying he's saying I will be the first to die and never to die again so that those who believe in me will never die. Never perish that means I can go from this life. I die. Go to this life right to the presence of God immediately. I'll never die again. I don't know want to say Matt. And I mean that's a awesome thing. By the way, that's probably what the mob wants on UCF campus. They just don't know that they may get their way on Earth.

Oh, what fools are you see if we have this knowledge it actually brings real peace. When we know when we see the miracles of Jesus we see. Wow. This is what he did. I can believe what he said. really Miracles miracle workers Is this Jesus? We're not miracle workers miracle that we have really the real true Miracle we have is the word that comes forth from our mouths to someone who is dying and on their way to hell in Detroit. We just give them Jesus did a lot of Miracles. He did a lot of things and he did it so you can tell you this message. Amazing, right? That was with Jesus the whole time. I just rattle through a few versus here. By the way. The reason why I read all these verses is because it feels your faith faith comes by what he's hearing the word of God not people talking their own opinions. This is what matters the word matters in a build your faith John 5:17 approved that the father was with him. The whole time validating him is it says it tested to you but he answered that my father is working till now and I myself and working for this reason there for the Jews were seeking all the more to kill him because he was not only breaking the Sabbath but also calling got his own father making him equal with God. Therefore Jesus answered and said the same to them truly truly. I say to you the sun could do nothing of himself unless it is something that he sees the father doing for whoever whatever the father does these things The Sun Also doesn't like matter. He wasn't just off on his own doing his own thing neither. That amazing you get to participate and what Jesus ultimately came to do which was to seek and save the lost and then all the world may know John 5:30. I can do nothing on my own initiative as I hear I judge and my judgment is just because I do not seek my own will but the will of him who sent me that should be our hearts. John 14:10, do you book not believe that I am in the father and the father is in me the words that I say to you. I do not speak of my own initiative, but the father biting me does his work Matthew 11 1 through 6 when Jesus had finished giving instructions to his 12 disciples, he departed from there to teach and preach in their cities that when John was in prison heard of The Works of Christ. He said sent word by his disciples and said to him. Are you the expected one the Messiah? Or shall we look for someone else Jesus answered and said to them go and report to John that you may hear and see the blind receive sight the lame walk. The lepers are cleansed in the Death Cure. The dead are raised up in the poor have the gospel preached to them and blessed is he who does not take offense?

What he saying is he's here. He came we can trust him. He's coming again. John 3:2 says this the man this man came to Jesus by Night speaking of Nicodemus Rabbi. We know that you have come from God is a teacher for no one could do these signs as you do unless God is with him what he's doing again and again and again, he's nailing it. He's staying over or Peter saying look this Messiah has come and he proved who he was by his life. He proved he was by his life and you're the same actually works for us. We can't just go around saying we're Christians. We need to prove it. Not by our works not by our strength, but the fruit which is by the Holy Spirit strength and work in US. We need to know that again. It is nothing to Salvation is not by works sanctification is certainly not by our works and glorification is not by our works. Do you think when you die you'll just kind of Waltz right into heaven as if you know the way when you die God will bring you into his presence. if you're his John 6-14 says therefore when the people saw the sign which should perform they said this is truly the prophet big p who is the who is to come into the world?

He's real. Why do we know that we certainly didn't live in Palestine and AD 33? We know. We know you're not a miracle has happened 2000 years later. How does it that we can read this ancient book in the words have power in our lives. How is it that I'm sitting there depressed in my dorm room in college 18. No one told me about this amazing life outside someone at the testimony of someone saying this is true. This is true. But you know, what? Ya the testimony, I don't know. I mean, I don't I don't I guess ya could see a change. Of course. That's that is a miracle. Yes, but when I read it for myself the words jumps off the page and changed my heart and changed it as it says in Ezekiel 36 from a Heart of Stone to Heart of Flesh became moldable and The Potter's hands. I became moldable. That's a miracle. I did not do that. Right a piece of paper. I just send it to my staff at this little blue piece of paper little pamphlet and just gave the gospel and I don't know for whatever reason. The Sovereign Lord came to me and said now is the time. I mean, I wasn't anything I did just a normal day just a normal day in college. 20 years ago amazing. The listeners could not say they didn't know there was proof. They didn't they could have beat that couldn't say to people while Peter. I don't know what you're talking crazy know. They knew this is why they could not claim ignorance. Neither. Can we we cannot claim ignorance one day will stand before Jesus and we can't say what I just didn't know.

I know, you know. The more you hear the more you're responsible for. This isn't John 1037 at 39. If I do not do the works of my father. Don't believe me. But if I do them, so you do not believe me believe in the works. So that you may know and understand that the father is in me and I am in the father therefore they were seeking again to season and you looted their grasp. He got away.

Don't believe anybody that says you have to see a miracle before you get saved. Don't believe anybody that says that it's simply not true. You do not. I do not need it perform a miracle in your mixed to believe him. The words enough so sure word. It's enough is enough to save I can give you hundreds of passages that prove that it's written all over the Bible Jesus what he did on Earth was enough. It was enough. John 11:46 to 53, but some of them went to the Pharisees I'm looking at the time like Lord, please help me. Okay, but some of them went to the Pharisees and told them the things which Jesus had done there for the chief Priests of the Pharisees convened the council and we're saying what are we doing for? This man is performing many signs all the jealous hearts that they had if we let him go on like this all men will believe in him. Yep. That's the point. That's the point and the Romans will come and take away both our place in our nation everyone sleep or Pharisees.

But one of them Caiaphas, this is hilarious God's using this man. Who's an unbeliever to prophesy something profound. He was a high priest that you're in said to them, you know, nothing at all. You know nothing at all nor do you take into account that it is expedient for you that one man die for his people and that the whole nation not perish. Profound. He said he did this not now. He did not say this on his own initiative of being a high priest that year. He prophesied that Jesus was going to die for the nation and not only for the rock of the nation, but in order that he might also gather into 1 children of God. And it into one the children of God who are scattered broads all of us sitting in this room this man this unbeliever prophesied that all of us would know him. So amazing. These people knew everything about the Messiah coming and they missed him. It's amazing what you can know and yet not know him. It is absolutely amazing. The accumulation of knowledge of the one who can save you but yet not be saved absolutely. Amazing to me over and over do I see it you see it to you might see it the people around you your workplace your family people on campus people who are righteous, you know, the truth, maybe the ways of culture. Claiming that they know all things redefining sin redefining love redefining the life. Jesus is the way the truth and the life. He defines this things and know once we go to him, You open up our hearts understand all these things so that people and John 12-17-18 to the people who are with him when he called Lazarus out of the Tomb and raised him from the dead continue to testify about him. They were just this man who raises people from the net for this reason also the people went and met with him let him because they heard that he perform to sign there were starting to gather to figure out how to kill Matthew 27:22 23 pilot said to them then what shall I do with is Jesus who is called the Christ. I want to explain something very clear. You are a constant pricker to the people in this world. You constantly prick people by the truth. They don't like you because you constantly show them their sin and their depravity you make them feel icky. You make them feel bad. They don't like that.

You may not like that right now. You may not like what I'm even saying right now.

I can't help that only he can. I would just say this. But anytime you preach the truth. Just get ready because A lot of times people don't react very nice to that. Because you're a constant reminder of the truth. Why do you think they changed the laws? Because it makes them feel better. Although you can change the law. You can't get rid of the Christian. Because the law is inside of them.

Do what you have to do. Give her to the Christian and that's what they did throughout history.

Let it let it sink. Let it chew on it. It's good. It's refreshing. Jesus has answers for every issue on the planet. Do you believe that do you believe in the all sufficiency of the scriptures? 2nd Timothy 3 15 and 16 John 15:24 225 if I had not done among them The Works which no one else did they would not have sent but now they have both seen and hated me and and my father as well, but they have not done this to fulfill the word that is written in the law to hit me without cause And I hate you without cause John 15 later on. He says that they'll hate you also as they hate me John 3:19. This is the Judgment that the light has come into the world and Men love the darkness rather than the light. This is what it really all comes down to you for the Deets what you people the reason why they don't like you the reason why is you start to preach the gospel on campus or preach the gospel to your neighbors and they will begin not to like you you're wondering why don't they like me because their deeds are evil and you're exposing them your constant flashlight in their life. Your constant salt to their decaying meat. We are all preserving with salt and light to the world verse 23 of only got one verse today guys verse 23 this man delivered over the predestined plan and foreknowledge of God. You nailed him to the Cross. It's you. Underline it you you nailed to a cross by the hands of God this man and put him to death. You've done that that's good preaching by the way. I'm going for your buddy. Like you all killed this man. Who's innocent? Jesus's death number to Jesus's death One Life to death. Jesus was made to look like a victim and a loser wasn't he some of us or Jesus but you have to understand this is part of God's plan. It says that it was his predetermined plan to send Jesus to die on the cross. This wasn't for Jesus.

He actually had a plan to deliver Jesus into the hands of his enemies John 10-17-18 for this reason, the father loves me because I lay down my life as some say I've heard this said in the recent books that are written about Jesus that God was committing divine child abuse. No, Jesus laid down his life willingly.

Willingly lays down his life just as we are not cool worst and Leadership. We lay our life down for a sheep. It's a there's something to be said about. Yes, there's the sovereignty of God, but there's also a human will is also a human component to it. Use of course all these people his he laid his life down his own initiative. Nor is it anyone's fault? We all have to come to the knowledge of him. We all have to Humble ourselves and recognize our own sin. And it was God's plan since the beginning. This is not a surprise to God. This isn't it? A surprise acts 4:27 for truly in the city. They were gathered together against your holy servant Jesus whom you anointed both Herod and Pontius Pilate along the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel to do whatever your hand in your purpose predestined to occur. I'm going to skip a little bit here acts 13 27 to 29 if you were with that down as again it just I like to hammer it in soda 2nd Timothy 1:9 the same same thing and the revelation 13:8.

He says the same thing. This was his plan from the beginning and know that God didn't just know this was going to happen. He worked through the people he worked through the people to allow the death of his son, but he used it in such a way that would bring about the salvation of me. And that great. So here's the deal Joseph said something like this in Genesis. 50:20 says you meant evil against me, but God meant for good. It's always like a reminds me of like when Paul said should we sin so that Grace May abound so we just like test the waters and see how much we can get away with. actual lot of times that proves that you're not his Judas is saying you yeah. I think there's a place where maybe we think we know that God works that all things together, but we can't just manipulate God and saying okay if I make this mistake and I somehow got to work that out and we're playing a game. That's so dangerous.

Remember God is Sovereign how he works out all those plans for you. We don't get to decide how it works out. Yes. He'll work out the crazy things in our life that have been done to us in the hurts in the pains and even our own sin in our own. I mean, we can't say Joseph was perfectly innocent is only one person. That was like that was Jesus.

But there is a human element that he never violates people's will although he'll use this end. So even though Judas betrayed Jesus and what a tragedy that is, he didn't make first clear this clear.
