The 5 R’s
The Real - (The point of connection between the speaker and the audience. Try to use personal stories or situations with which listeners can connect.)

Use an intriguing opening line that draws people into the moment.

The Rub - (The message stops being about something the speaker has experienced, and becomes something all listeners do or think. Try to build a friction between how people behave or think and how they should behave or think. This is not intended to be judgmental, but to make listeners ask “Why do we do that?”)

The Read - [reference] - (The message shifts from the way people behave or think to where they discover what God’s Word has to say about the issue.)

The Ready - (The message becomes about each individual in the audience. Switch from addressing “we” and start talking to “you.” Give practical ways that each listener can apply what they have learned from God’s Word.)
