Will God continue to forgive you if you commit the same sin over and over again?
Will God continue to forgive you if you commit the same sin over and over again?
This is a question that many people wonder...
Some people think that you don’t sin anymore once you are saved, which is really wrong.
Others think you can sin all you want, and it’s okay.
I commentated on a post about habitual sin, and there were quite a few people who didn’t understand habitual sin, which is sad.
Some said, oh you’re making salvation works based...
Others said, when do you know it’s habitual lol…
I believe it is important for us to have an understanding of this question.
Two Main Verses
Psalm 103:12
1 John 1:9
Psalms 103:12
As a believer, we will fall into sin, because we still live in a sinful world.
However, as a believer, when we confess our sins to God, he forgives us.
One issue is Satan… The enemy like to trick us.. When you sin, and ask for forgiveness, he likes to plant thoughts in your mind telling you that you are not actually forgiven.
If you truly received Jesus Christ as Lord, then those thoughts that come into your mind are a demonic influence.. They try to plant seeds of doubt and despair.
Satan loves to remind you of your sins, even though they are forgiven… But, we can’t listen to that nonsense.
This psalm tells us that God forgives our sins, but not just that… He also removes them from his presence…
Will we ever understand that, No! But, I am grateful!
1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins to Him, He will forgive us!
This is a promise in the Bible.
He will forgive when we come to Him and are truly seeking forgiveness.
Even when we mess up, He will be faithful and forgive us.
In Matthew 18:21-22, we see Peter asking a great question!
Peter says, “ehhh how about 7 times.. after that then no more?”
Jesus responds with the idea of “forgiveness is infinite for those who are truly seeking it.”
We can always be forgiven because of Jesus’ shed blood on the cross.
Now, Habitual Sin
Now, Habitual Sin
It is unbiblical for a believer to be a habitual sinner.
1 John 3:8-9
In 2 Cor 13:5, Paul warns believers to make sure that you are truly in the faith, make sure that you are truly saved.
As a christian, we will fall into sin, we will stumble… However, we do not live a life of unrepentant sin.
Paul even did things he didn’t want to do… Romans 7:15
Our response to sin should be one of hatred and repentance.
We should hate our sin and repent from it.
Usually, we get stuck in a place of sin because we turn away from God..
We choose not to read, not to pray, not to attend church or youth… we choose other things over Christ.
Habitual sin is when you are living in unrepentant sin.
Another Trick
Another Trick
Satan tries to make us feel like we can’t possibly be forgiven, but we know, should know, that isn’t the case.
He tries to make you feel unworthy...
Which, whenever have we been worthy of God’s love and forgiveness? Never.. God loves us and forgives us because of what Jesus did.
God’s grace is greater than any sin, but you have to be truly wanting forgiveness.
