You are loved
Romans 5:5 NKJV
5 Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
Shed abound: Means to pour out.
1. God’s love cannot be measured to us in spoonful or even bucketful quantities. It is poured out to us generously and abundantly into our hearts.
To pour out means to be flooded or overflowed. God’s love flows freely and powerfully towards us, filling every aspect of our being and flooding over us.
This verse tells us that God’s love is expressed to us by the Holy Spirit who was given to us. The Holy Spirit is God’s gift to all who believe in Jesus and trust him as their Lord and savior. So the love of God is a gift from the Holy Spirit.
It is the Spirit who manifest (Render apparent) God’s loveto us so we can feel it, delight in it, be comforted by it, and relax in it.
All throughout the Bible we find the word gift. God’s love is His gift, the Holy Spirit is His gift, His forgiveness is His gift. God is always moving toward His people and generously giving Himself to us.
The greatest sign of God’s love.
A heart is used as a symbol of love. God has a symbol of love too. The cross. The cross tells us that God loves us so much that He sent His son to die for us. Jn 3:16 Elab on the cross and the suffering.
To the Jews the cross was a stumbling block, a sign of weakness. To the Greeks it was a sign of foolishness. But to all who believe in Jesus, the cross is a sign of power, wisdom, and of love.
1 Corinthians 1:18 NKJV
18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
The cross tells us three important things about God’s love:
God loves sinners.
God freely bestows His love on all who will receive it.
God’s love is without re-call.
God loves sinners
The first great message of the cross is that God loves sinners. Nowhere in the bible loves those who do things on their own strength and will power and then turn to Him.
Or that He only loves those from a certain race or nation, or those who have talents and skills. God love every person, and loves is while we are still sinners.
Romans 5:7–8 NKJV
7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
God’s love is freely given
The second message of the cross is that God’s love is freely given to all who will receive it. The death of Jesus was the highest cost ever paid.
Nothing could possibly be more valuable than the blood of Jesus. But the gift that was given freely of Jesus’ own will, so that we might freely receive it simply by believing in Jesus as Lord and savior.
There is no list of things we must do to receive God’s love. There is nothing that we must do, meet any requirements to earn God’s love. We just have to believe and receive it.
It is good news to know that God’s free gift of love and salvation means there is nothing that we must do to earn it. There is nothing we can do to earn it.
What is God’s motivation for loving us and forgiving us? His own heart. We cannot make God love is, we cannot keep God from loving us.
God’s love is offered, but not everyone is willing to receive it. Receiving it is an act of faith. His is available for everyone one, but He does not force it on anyone.
He offers Hos love freely, and whenever to door of your heart is opened to Him he enters.
Revelation 3:20 NKJV
20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.
