Pressed to Hear

Luke 5:1–4 KJV 1900
1 And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret, 2 And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets. 3 And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon’s, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship. 4 Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.
Pressed to Hear...
Luke 5:1 KJV 1900
1 And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret,
Pressed to hear...
Pressed upon
pressured
To press against
to push against
to lie on...
The crowds -
the people pressed upon Jesus to communicate the Word of God...
Luke 5:1 KJV 1900
1 And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret,

1. The Word Desired

Luke 4:42–5:1 KJV 1900
42 And when it was day, he departed and went into a desert place: and the people sought him, and came unto him, and stayed him, that he should not depart from them. 43 And he said unto them, I must preach the kingdom of God to other cities also: for therefore am I sent. 44 And he preached in the synagogues of Galilee. 1 And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret,
The Word of God has the answers for life’s questions...
This world is looking for Answers...
There is a need for truth -
We all have need of truth
we all have need for answers - not just on the political level - but truth for the daily problems of life..
Truth about current conditions:
Sick - Peter’s Mother-in-law
Luke 4:38–39 KJV 1900
38 And he arose out of the synagogue, and entered into Simon’s house. And Simon’s wife’s mother was taken with a great fever; and they besought him for her. 39 And he stood over her, and rebuked the fever; and it left her: and immediately she arose and ministered unto them.
Other’s who had those who were sick of different diseases
Luke 4:40 KJV 1900
40 Now when the sun was setting, all they that had any sick with divers diseases brought them unto him; and he laid his hands on every one of them, and healed them.
Those who who were demon possessed were freed
Luke 4:41 KJV 1900
41 And devils also came out of many, crying out, and saying, Thou art Christ the Son of God. And he rebuking them suffered them not to speak: for they knew that he was Christ.

2. The Word Taught

Luke 5:2–3 KJV 1900
2 And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets. 3 And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon’s, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship.
The message taught is not recorded - but they desired the Word of God...
They desired truth - and the One that stood before them was the Word of God - manifested in the Flesh
John 1:1 KJV 1900
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:14 KJV 1900
14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
John 14:6 KJV 1900
6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
It wasn’t only that the Word was taught,
it was the fact that the Word himself taught...
It doesn’t matter the message - if God’s Word is being taught - we should be hungry to hear...
There is a spiritual battle - going on - and the flesh is weak - we need to feed the spirit - the spiritual side of us -
Matthew 26:41 KJV 1900
41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

THE WORD TAUGHT

3. The Word Obeyed

Luke 5:4–5 KJV 1900
4 Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. 5 And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.
The Spoken Word
The Taught Word
The Obeyed Word -
without the obedience to the Word, the speaking and preaching meant nothing
Romans 1:17 KJV 1900
17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
James 2:15–20 KJV 1900
15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, 16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? 17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. 18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. 19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. 20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
