WORSHIP: Psalm 24

Worshiping the King of Glory!
Have we ever taken the time to ponder the question, “What is worship?”
And to carry the question a step further, “How do we worship?”
The complexity of these two questions, are ones we must be willing to wrestle with.
Jesus told the woman at the well in John 4:23-24, “But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. 24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
The word “worship” means to kneel down as an act of reverence.
Therefore, when we define worship today, is worship displayed as an act of knelling down in reverence?
Accordingly, is worship define in other ways? Yes, by ministry, by obedience, by honor, and by submission, by evangelism, by discipleship, and by lifting up Jesus in all our efforts.
1st Cor. 10:31 “Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”
As a result, worship is more than music. Worship is more than human efforts.
Worship is a divine offering. God offers himself by a personal relationship in Christ Jesus as Lord of our lives; therefore, we respond to the love of God because God is worthy of worship.
Understanding the question, “What is worship?” Is certainly one we must wrestle with, and I pray we would wrestle with the worship of God.
As we look into the text of Psalm 24 this morning, we see David pondering the question of how to worship God.
Or principles needed to understand the worship of God.
I. Who Is This King Of Glory?
In verse 8 and verse 10, David asks the question, “Who is this King of Glory?”
In the Hebrew, the word “glory” is “kabod” it means a weight of honor.
Its the same word used in Luke 2:14, at the birth of Jesus. When the angels cried out, “Glory to God in the highest.”
Simply put, the King of Glory means, King of Honor or a king worthy of all honor.
Therefore, if the Lord is to be worshipped, we have to understand that God is to be honored and revered in our life. Failure to know who it is you worship will result in a failure to know how to worship.
With that being the case, David explained in Psalm 24, who this King of Glory is!
a. The King of Glory is Sovereign (v. 1-2)
b. The King of Glory is Serious (v. 3-5)
v. 3 David perceives the heaviness of worshipping the Lord
“Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord? Or who may stand in His holy pace?
David ask, “Who can be in Your presence?
v. 4 those w/ “clean hands” (right actions) and “pure heart” (right motives)
“not lifted up his soul to idol,” (honoring creation rather than Creator) and “sworn deceitfully” (saying things they really don’t mean, {when we sing, “Where He Leads I’ll Go” and not mean it is swear deceitfully}
v. 5-6 If we do what verses 3-4 instruct, we can receive the blessing of worshiping and honoring the Lord.
c. The King of Glory is Accessible (v. 7-9)
d. The King of Glory is Confessed (v. 10)
In Closing
Do you worship the King of Glory for who He is?
Or do you worship at all?
