Today we continue considering the Bible and it's role in the life of the individual believer as well as within the Church

Right Conception:

The nature of Scripture...

The effect of Scripture.

In other words...

What it is and What it does.

The Bible was at the Heart of Israel

Formation= A sense of History & Identity.

Faith=A sense of Divine direction

Patterns of faith/fall/restoration

Judges

Monarchy

Exile

Restoration

Even in the Church we need to balance these two characteristics

When we focus too much on the nature of scripture it appears to be...

Beyond us...

Nebulous and magical.

Hard to understand.

Dangerous

When we focus too much on the application of scripture it appears to be...

Simplistic

Shallow.

Volatile.

Dangerous.

Paul's Instruction to Timothy

2 Timothy 3:14–17 ESV
14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it 15 and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
