Lessons from John the Baptist

Knew who he was

Knew what his calling was and was confident in that

Knew the signs to look for

Knew his Scriptures

Verse 31: was confidently expectant

Did not sit and wait, but was active in his mission in hopeful expectation that the Messiah would reveal himself.

The Jews were likely members of the Sanhedrin, which was the ruling council. These priests were there to assess the truthfulness of people claiming to be prophets, or the Messiah. Priests and Levites were the investigators, the Levites generally accompnying the Priests, sort of asharisees were
