Protection

This is a Psalm of David, some say it is a lament (sadness/mourning) psalm;
David was in exile, in an uncomfortable place, not where he should physically and mentally;
It could be said that David was in a vulnerable state emotionally and spiritually;
Now in this time of exile and vulnerability David cries out to the only One that can provide the protection he needs, God;
He cries out “lead me to the rock that is higher than I”, the only One that can help him in his current state of being overwhelmed;
David recognizes where his protection has always been, his shelter, his strength and his tower;
The Christian group Kutless has a song called Strong Tower and in that song it says: “You are my strong tower A shelter over me Beautiful and mighty Everlasting king You are my strong tower Fortress when I'm weak Your name is true and holy And your face is all I see…”
David understood the place for shelter was under the wings of God.

Life Giving

In the beginning of this Psalm David is asking God to hear him, now he shares that God has heard his prayer;
David begins to reflect on the things that God promised and provided;
David begins to now list those promises already provided;
How often do you reflect back and share with God His provided promises and answers?

Enduring

This verse is about praising God, not just at church but even in your lowest depths;
This verse reveals how long the praise should last “forever”;
But notice the last line “That I may daily perform my vows.” - David’s promises to fulfill his promises (vows) to God;
How are you doing with that?
