Main Idea: Putting the End in Order
Main Idea: Putting the End in Order
A matter of doing it God’s way; not our way
Also a matter of God the Father being glorified by the person and work of God the Son
For it was fitting that he, for whom and by whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, should make the founder of their salvation perfect through suffering.
For he who sanctifies and those who are sanctified all have one source. That is why he is not ashamed to call them brothers,
For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.
The Necessity of Reigning
The Necessity of Reigning
What about that Kingdom
What about that Kingdom
God is King over all the earth—concept began early on
The Lord reigns; he is robed in majesty; the Lord is robed; he has put on strength as his belt. Yes, the world is established; it shall never be moved.
The Lord has established his throne in the heavens, and his kingdom rules over all.
Yet, it appeared throughout OT that the world was out of control…sound familiar?
Even His own designated people seemed out of control
I am the Lord, your Holy One, the Creator of Israel, your King.”
Seemingly endless cycle of sin, oppression, confession, restoration
Early promise of a different kind of kingdom
And in the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that shall never be destroyed, nor shall the kingdom be left to another people. It shall break in pieces all these kingdoms and bring them to an end, and it shall stand forever,
Commercial for M4M; Nebuchadnezzar's dream
…and still things seem out of control today
…all ready; not yet...
He is the ruler over all the earth, the universe...
…but enemies still have their strongholds
We have not yet seen the full manifestation of His glory, His rule, His reign
Satan has yet to be vanquished—still the “prince and power of this air”
In this final reign, Jesus conquers all
Jesus puts to death even death itself—the final enemy
Death personified—ho thanatos
Death came into the world by way of sin
but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”
Man wilfully chose to disobey God
…and has been doing it ever since
…and will be until death is destroyed and
All is put under subjection
The Necessity of Subjection
The Necessity of Subjection
Subjection actually began in the ministry of Jesus
But if it is by the Spirit of God that I cast out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.
His teaching in the parables “the kingdom of God is like…” Matt 13:31-32, Mark 4:26-29 & 30-32, Luke 13:18-19 & 20-21
Each gives a glimpse of the church as it grows here on earth, and some indication of harvest at the proper time
All showing that it’s all under control
The final aspect of the growth of the kingdom will be that harvest time
Full account in Rev 14:14-20—pretty graphic in its imagery
So he who sat on the cloud swung his sickle across the earth, and the earth was reaped.
So the angel swung his sickle across the earth and gathered the grape harvest of the earth and threw it into the great winepress of the wrath of God.
That time is yet coming…but the subjection is in process--
Entire process began at the first sin…coming to the point of the harvest…maybe soon
The Necessity of Submission
The Necessity of Submission
The entirety of the actions of the son are for the glorification of the Father
Example in Jesus’ “high priestly prayer”
I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work that you gave me to do.
His work for and in that time was finished
He continues to work interceding for the saints even now: AS THE SAINTS CALL ON HIM
Even when all is under submission to Christ—the son; He remains in submission to the Father
There is a sense of order in the Trinity
And the Point IS????
And the Point IS????
Just as chaos seemed to reign in the days of Noah
Just as chaos seemed to reign in the wanderings of the Exodus
Just as chaos seemed to reign in the time of the Judges
…there was no king and every man did what what was right in his own eyes...
Just as warfare was a fact of life throughout the era of the nation of Israel
…as persecution and anti-Christian sentiment was the way of the world during much of the early church period
So it is yet today
God IS still Sovereign!
God IS still Sovereign!
He was in control
Is in control
Will be in control until all is put in subjection to His Son
When our life is coming apart—health, job, finances
When our kids (grand kids) run amok
When our nation seems to be crumbling
When our faith is hard to hang onto…single-most critical
Remember:
Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice.
Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand;
do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
That peace is available only to those who have the relationship with Christ…no one else
Where are you?
