Creation and New Creation Glorify God

Creation Displays the Power of God

There was a kid in my highschool nicknamed “KP.” He would appear like a normal sized man now, maybe even smaller, but I did not grow until my junior year so he was gigantic to me. “KP” was also a bad dude. Rumor had it that he was in a gang. I don’t know how true that was, but it would not surprise me at all. On the football field he had what the coaches called “reckless abandonment,” which meant that he had no concern for his body or others but would run through anything in his path. Football was never really my thing. I could hang in there a little bit in middle school, which was before everyone grew, but as a 5’3” freshman I was in the path of KP during one practice. I understood something of power that day. I understood how little I had and how much he had, and once I came back to my senses I decided to focus my efforts on baseball. Gravity is another powerful force of nature. Gravity is what holds us to the earth. The sun’s gravity is what keeps the planets in our solar system where they are. Gravity can be so powerful that it distorts space and time as we know it! Yet, God made both KP and gravity. Human beings instinctively know something of the power of God through the things that have been made. Romans 1:20 says, “[God’s] invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made.” All people without exception know that God is powerful, but divine revelation is even more explicit. God’s is described as Almighty, which means his power is limitless. God’s power is beyond all measurements! Oh sinner do you not tremble before this God to whom you will give an account of your thoughts, words, and deeds? Do you not realize that once your judgement is finalized there is no wriggling out of it? You have a greater chance of evading gravity than delivering yourself from the wrath of the Almighty! As I have been preparing this sermon, my prayer for you, if you have not fled to Christ, is that you would hear this warning and flee from the powerful wrath of God to come.

Creation Displays the Wisdom of God

Creation Displays the Goodness of God

Why did God make all things? Why did God make 100 billion galaxies and only make one planet habitable? Why did God make the 275’ sequoia tree and the watermeal plant, which matures to only a fraction of an inch? Why did God make the platypus? Why did God make bioluminescent fish dwelling in the depths of the sea or eagles skimming the heights of the sky? It was not because he was needy.
