Deuteronomy 6:4–9 MEV
4 Hear, O Israel: The Lord is our God. The Lord is one! 5 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. 6 These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be in your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up. 8 You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

The Meaning

This passage was quoted daily in the Jewish culture to show the “oneness” of God.

2 Fold Command

Love God with all your heart, soul and strength
Teach your faith to their children
Children are an awesome gift.
What are you going to do with the gift that has been given to you?

Be faithful To The Lord

Deuteronomy 6:5 MEV
5 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.
What does it mean?
It means that before you can dedicate the children to the Lord, you must love the Lord yourself.
A lot of times we just go through the motions and do things just because we are “supposed to.”
This is not what God intended!
There are a few rules regarding dedication of your children to the Lord.
The parents must be right with God!
They must faithfully study the Word of God, pray, fast, worshiping, serving, and practicing the disciplines of the faith.
Their eyes must be focused on the Lord!

Be Examples For The Lord

Parents must be the example to their children of who Christ is.
They must worship at home and not only at church.
They must pray at home and not only at church.
They must read His Word at home not only at church.
They must attend church with their children not just bring them.
Have the right attitude when they give tithes and offerings to the church.
Be the example of Christianity Monday - Saturday and not just on Sunday!
We force our children to do everything else in the world but give them the options when it comes to church attendance!
If they don’t get God when they are young, they want want God when they are older!

We Are To Train Them For The Lord

Deuteronomy 6:7 MEV
7 You shall teach them diligently to your children and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up.
We are to train our children at all times:
Train them when we are sitting down
Train them when we are walking
Train them when we are lying down
Train them with the Word of God in their hearts
Train the with the Word of God before their eyes on a regular basis.
Train the with the Word of God written on items in our home.
We need to plan the training now!
If not, the enemy will do it for us and train them to be against God!

Keep The Lord Before Them

Our first mission is to our family.
If my family needs me, this church will have to wait!
Our job is to lead, train, and be the example!
They still have to make the decision to follow on their own!
