SHEPHERD. (John 10:2) poimen (poy-mane); Strong’s G#4166: A herdsman, sheepherder; one who tends, leads, guides, cherishes, feeds, and protects a flock. The New Testament uses the word for a Christian pastor to whose care and leadership others will commit themselves (Eph. 4:11). The term is applied metaphorically to Christ (John 10:11, 14, 16; Heb. 13:20; 1 Pet. 2:25). [2]

15.182 ὁδηγέωa: to guide or to direct, with the implication of making certain that people reach an appropriate destination—‘to lead, to guide.’ τυφλὸς δὲ τυφλὸν ἐὰν ὁδηγῇ, ἀμφότεροι εἰς βόθυνον πεσοῦνται ‘if one who is blind tries to guide another who is blind, they will both fall into a ditch’ Mt 15.14; ὁδηγήσει αὐτοὺς ἐπὶ ζωῆς πηγὰς ὑδάτων ‘he shall lead them to living springs of water’ Re 7.17.

15.183 ὁδηγόςa, οῦ m: (derivative of ὁδηγέωa ‘to guide,’ 15.182) one who guides—‘guide, leader.’ περὶ Ἰούδα τοῦ γενομένου ὁδηγοῦ τοῖς συλλαβοῦσιν Ἰησοῦν ‘concerning Judas who became the guide for those who arrested Jesus’ Ac 1.16.

15.184 χειραγωγέω: to lead or guide by taking by the hand—‘to lead someone by the hand, to take by the hand.’ χειραγωγοῦντες δὲ αὐτὸν εἰσήγαγον εἰς Δαμασκόν ‘they led him by the hand and took him into Damascus’ Ac 9.8.

15.185 χειραγωγός, οῦ m: (derivative of χειραγωγέω ‘to lead by the hand,’ 15.184) a person who leads another by the hand—‘a guide, one who leads by the hand.’ περιάγων ἐζήτει χειραγωγούς ‘he went around seeking for people to lead him by the hand’ Ac 13.11.

15.186 μετάγω: to cause to move from one place to another by bringing or leading—‘to direct, to steer, to guide.’ εἰ δὲ τῶν ἵππων τοὺς χαλινοὺς εἰς τὰ στόματα βάλλομεν εἰς τὸ πείθεσθαι αὐτοὺς ἡμῖν, καὶ ὅλον τὸ σῶμα αὐτῶν μετάγομεν ‘if we put bits into the mouths of horses in order to make them obey us, we can guide them’ (literally ‘ … their whole body’) Jas 3.3; μετάγεται ὑπὸ ἐλαχίστου πηδαλίου ‘(the ship) can be steered by means of a very small rudder’ Jas 3.4.
