Lessons from Noah
1. Noah lived in an Evil time. (Gen 6:5-8)
a. God’s heart saddened and filled with pain
b. Only 9 generations after Adam
2. Noah did not allow the evil around him to change his faith in God (Gen. 6:9-12)
a. (Gen.6:13-18)
i. He stood out as the only man who walked with God
ii. God told Noah he was planning to destroy the world He gave Noah detailed instructions to build the ark
b. Noah believed and obeyed God (Gen. 6:19-22)
3. Noah did as God commanded (Gen. 7:
a. Noah did not sway in his belief even though it took 120 years to complete.
b. Noah continued to preach about God’s judgment and mercy (2 Pet. 2:5)
c. Noah continued to warn about the coming doom even though no one listened (1 Pet. 3:20)
New Testament References to the Flood. References to the Flood are found in Matthew 24:38; Luke 17:26, 27; Hebrews 11:7; 1 Peter 3:20; and 2 Peter 2:5. The Flood was used to illustrate the holy God’s wrath against human wickedness and the salvation of His people.[1]
Luke 17:26-27 (NCV)
26 When the Son of Man comes again, it will be as it was when Noah lived. 27 People were eating, drinking, marrying, and giving their children to be married until the day Noah entered the boat. Then the flood came and killed them all. [2]
Hebrews 11:7 (NCV)
7 It was by faith that Noah heard God’s warnings about things he could not yet see. He obeyed God and built a large boat to save his family. By his faith, Noah showed that the world was wrong, and he became one of those who are made right with God through faith.[3]
4. God provided deliverance to the people who believed in Him
a. Through the Ark
b. Today through Jesus (John 3:16-17)
