Ruth 1–4

1.     Mother in hardship

a.     Famine forced them to another land

b.     Husband died (v3)

c.      Left alone with two sons (v3)

2.     Matriarch of Family

a.     After 10 yrs. Both sons died (v5)

b.     Left with daughter-in-laws

c.      Naomi learns of the end of Famine

d.     Both want to stay with her (v10)

e.      Naomi releases the daughters-in-law (v8-12)

                                                             i.      No other sons to carry on – take over (v8-12)

                                                           ii.      Go back to your families and gods (v12-13)

3.     Ruth Stays

a.     Mind made up

b.     Accepts Naomi’s people

c.      Accepts Naomi’s God

4.     Return Home

a.     Everyone excited to see Naomi (v19)

b.     Arrived at harvest time (perfect timing)

c.      “It just so happened” (Prov. 16:33, 20:24)

5.     Boaz

a.     Ruth earns respect from Boaz for the way she treated Naomi

b.     Naomi sees God’s hand even in their hard times

c.      Naomi realizes he is their Kinsman Redeemer

d.     Naomi comes up with a plan for Ruth to marry Boaz
