Introduction
I believe the question “is he worthy?” is one that we ask on a daily basis
This isn’t just an answer we must give during one week of the church’s year or during a special conference
This is a question we must ask ourselves every single day
Is He worthy? Or is this decision I am going to make for Jesus worth it?
If He is worthy than any right decision made for him is worth it.
This is such a rich passage with such great truths that someone could preach this for weeks, but I’d like to give you three reasons why Jesus is worthy
1. Because He Made Us v. 15-17
1. Because He Made Us v. 15-17
Who is He?
Who is He?
He is the image of the invisible God
He is the visible representation of God
He is our photograph of God
When we see Jesus we see all of God
He is not only a mere reflection of God
He is absolutely God
He is completely God
All of God dwells in Jesus Col. 1.19
19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;
All of God dwells in Jesus’ physical body Col. 2.9
9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
Jesus said that if you’ve seen him you’ve seen the father Jn. 14.8-11
8 Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us.
9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?
10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.
11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.
Jesus and the Father are one Jn. 10.30
30 I and my Father are one.
He is the firstborn of every creature
This does not mean that he is the first creation
He is not the first in order of succession but in order of importance Heb. 1.2
2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;
He is the creator of all things v. 16 Jn. 1.3
3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
When we read Gen. 1.1 we could say “In the beginning Jesus created the heavens and the earth”
1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
If everything was made by him then that means that everything was made for him Rev. 4.11
11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.
If He made us then he runs the show
If He made us then he deserves all respect honor, glory, power, service, praise, worship
He holds all things together
J. Vernon McGee said that he is like a cosmic glue that holds everything together
If It weren’t for Jesus this whole world would fall apart
He is the one that maintains and sustains this world
2. Because He Defeated The Grave v. 18
2. Because He Defeated The Grave v. 18
He is the head of the body, the church
It’s so interesting that just a couple of verses down he goes from being the firstborn of every creature to being the firstborn from the dead
Not only has He created all things but He is over all things
He has power and dominion over all things including death
He humbled himself, took on the form of a servant and was obedient to the death Phil 2.8
8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
He has raised from the dead and will also raise us from the dead
He reached down to a sinful world that turned their back on him and gave himself as a ransom form many Mark 10.45
45 For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.
All of God was in Christ Jesus dying for the sins of the world and reconciling them to Him 2 Cor. 5.19
19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
3. Because He Made Peace For Us v. 19-20
3. Because He Made Peace For Us v. 19-20
The Bible says that we now have peace with God through the blood of Jesus
His blood sacrifice was the payment needed for our sins Eph. 1.7
7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;
He became sin for us 2 Cor. 5.21
21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
We were strangers and enemies of God Col. 1.21
21 And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled
God gave himself for us completely through His son on the cross
He did not hold back anything for our salvation Rom 8.32
32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
He shed his precious blood on the cross for us 1 Pet 2.24
24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
So now we are new creatures 2 Cor. 5.17
17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
We have been bought with a price 1 Cor. 6.20
20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.
Is He Worthy?
Is He Worthy?
YES HE IS!
Jesus is worthy and will receive the worship that is due to His name Phil. 2.9-11
9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
He deserves all the PREEMINENCE
He deserves the highest position
He deserves all the praise, all the honor, all the glory forever and ever Rev. 4.11
11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.
He is worthy to be exalted among the heathen Ps. 96.3
3 Declare his glory among the heathen, His wonders among all people.
Is he worthy?
Of our lives?
Of our praise?
Of our riches?
Of our family?
Of our future?
Of our time?
Of our finances?
Of our suffering?
Of our sacrifice?
Of our holiness?
Of our worship?
Of our children?
Of our giving?
YES HE IS!
