Introduction
Greetings…
Two weeks ago we began a new series of lesson with the theme “In Christ” with the goal of examining the different benefits found in God’s word specifically tied to the phrase “in Christ.”
Last week we examined what “faith in Christ” is.
We learned faith is “the logical conclusion based on the cross-examination of the invisible God & his word.”
We also learned there are three powerful characteristics of those with faith in Christ which are righteousness (Philippians 3:8-11), firmness (Colossians 2:5), and recognition (Colossians 1:3-4).
Today we are going to turn our attention to “Redemption In Christ.”
There are four passages in the New Testament that specifically link redemption with being in Christ.
Romans 3:24; 1 Corinthians 1:30; Ephesians 1:7; Colossians 1:14
With this in mind let’s examine our lesson for today.
What Is Redemption?
What Is Redemption?
Definition.
Definition.
According to the dictionary to redeem means “to buy back, repurchase.” 1
So redemption means to buy something or someone back.
It was often used in secular writings such as Josephus’ Antiquities of “making free [slaves] by payment of ransom.” 2

Summary
So how does that connect with us being in Christ?
How are we redeemed in Christ?
To answer this we must look at…
Christ’s Mission
Christ’s Mission
Seek & Save The Lost.
Seek & Save The Lost.
Jesus came to this earth, born of woman, with a pinpoint focus which was two fold.
Jesus’ first focus was to defeat sin and its deadly stranglehold it had on God’s creation of humanity.
Jesus defeated sin by first living a perfect life.
15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.
22 He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth.
5 You know that he appeared in order to take away sins, and in him there is no sin.
Jesus defeat sin by secondly being the perfect sacrifice for all mans’ sin.
24 He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.
21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
Jesus’ second focus was to create a pathway by which all of God’s children could be redeemed.
This pathway was obedience to the gospel that led to washing and regeneration through Jesus’s blood.
4 But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, 5 he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, 6 whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior,
14 I said to him, “Sir, you know.” And he said to me, “These are the ones coming out of the great tribulation. They have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
Jesus became flesh to specifically seek and save the lost and he did this by defeating sin and creating a pathway to justification of mankind’s soul.
This justification of our soul is made possible only through the blood of Christ.
Therefore our souls are…
Blood Purchased.
Blood Purchased.
Because “life is in the blood” (Leviticus 17:11), death and the shedding of blood is required for “newness” to take place.
The only way a new law could be established for all was through the death of the old.
4 Likewise, my brothers, you also have died to the law through the body of Christ, so that you may belong to another, to him who has been raised from the dead, in order that we may bear fruit for God.
The only way a new covenant could be established is through the shedding of blood.
18 Therefore not even the first covenant was inaugurated without blood.
Therefore, there could be no forgiveness of sins in this new law and covenant without the shedding of blood.
22 Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.
The only way we could have our sins removed was through the blood of Christ which is why Jesus “purchased” us with his own blood.
28 Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood.
It’s this purchase that “redeemed us.”
7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace,
13 And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, 14 by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.
Summary
Summary
Christ’s mission was to seek and save the lost and he did so by defeating sin and creating a pathway to justification through his blood which redeemed (purchased & made free) everyone’s soul from sin who was washed in it.
Conclusion
Conclusion
In Christ, all those that have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God have found justification through redemption that is in Christ.
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, 25 whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins.
Invitation
1 Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save, or his ear dull, that it cannot hear; 2 but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear.
6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.
17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.
6 And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.
30 The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent,
32 “Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven.
8 in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.
1 Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, 2 and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. 3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures,
3 Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his.
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
