Intro

This passage is often misunderstood, but we should not bend it to what er want it to mean.
This is talking about fulfillment of our duties
1 Timothy 2:8–15 ESV
8 I desire then that in every place the men should pray, lifting holy hands without anger or quarreling; 9 likewise also that women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire, 10 but with what is proper for women who profess godliness—with good works. 11 Let a woman learn quietly with all submissiveness. 12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; rather, she is to remain quiet. 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve; 14 and Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived and became a transgressor. 15 Yet she will be saved through childbearing—if they continue in faith and love and holiness, with self-control.

Balance in Worship

Worship has a balance and order. If you have ever heard me teach on it, that is a big focus to me
That should not stifle it, but it does inform it
This is not limited to music or contact but also roles
For Genders
Men do not be angry
Women do not focus on appearance
This is not all men or all women. These are things stereo typical to each side.
We can also look at it as issues Ephesus was dealing with.
Either way we should listen to these issues
Neither men nor women should let anger rule them, especially in worship
Neither men nor women should obsess on appearance, especially in worship
One cultural issue at this time was men fought in war and might not welcome everyone into worship
Another cultural issue is the appearance of the temple prostitute
Wanted to not be distracted in comparing her
We should seek to be noticed not for appearance but because of action.
We can dress up, we can look nice, we should at least present ourselves decently
Its not that, its that we shouldn't be distracting or look to be noticed for appearance.

Roles in Worship

1 Timothy 2:11 ESV
11 Let a woman learn quietly with all submissiveness.
V11 is hard to read and makes it easy to call Paul was a misogynistic
This is not talking about what we think it is.
We need to take time to fully understand it
When we look to the issues of the time it clarifies a lot
Women were often not allowed to learn in the same way men were
We still see this is some places today (Mary and Martha)
The word translated quietly also means calmly.
It is saying let these women learn calmly or in peace.
When it says submissive, it is not speaking about to men.
This passage is often used to show that men should rule over women in the church. That is not what this passage is refering to.
It is saying they should calmly learn choosing to be submissive to the Scripture and the Apostles
1 Timothy 2:12 ESV
12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; rather, she is to remain quiet.
This likewise is not saying that no woman is ever allowed to teach or say anything of importance.
The passages on Spiritual Gifts are not to men alone
All believers have the HS and likewise are empowered.
This is referring to teaching and exercising authority in the worship setting.
It does not mean women cannot participate in worship.
I obviously do not believe that having women lead songs
But this is not the teaching authority it is referring to
Authority of the Church Offices. This is coming right before an explanation of the offices.
This is followed by an explanation, that is not totally clear to us and takes some work to get through.

Creation Order

This is not talking about the fall, but this order was in creation.
Same importance
Same dignity
Same image of God
But different roles
Complementarianism

Saved By a Child

1 Timothy 2:15 ESV
15 Yet she will be saved through childbearing—if they continue in faith and love and holiness, with self-control.
This is one of the most confusing verses at first glance and there are many thoughts on its meaning
It may be talking about the role of women in the home
It may be talking about the next generation and child rearing
Some say it is talking about being saved by physical child bearing
This is not the case and many problems with this.
Some are not able to
Some called to singleness
And this would be salvation through a work
Referring to women, and men being saved though the birth of a savior, who is the Chrsit
Continue in the right way, the right teaching
