So how do we make sense of all of this?
Authority: the power or the right to give orders, make decision, and enforce obedience.; a person or organization having power or control in a particular, typically political or administrative, sphere.

God: The Father, Son, Holy Spirit and the Bible
Government:
Family:
Business:
Self:
Unity of Command: all forces operate under a single commander with the requisite authority to direct all forces employed in pursuit of a common purpose.
In life we aren’t always afforded that privilege.
Mom and the phone ring.
Michael: She said that she wasn’t here.
Rebel: a person who rises in opposition or armed resistance against an established government or ruler.

As a Christian and assuming unity of command: No.
Where does rebellion come from?
Saul Alinsky:
60 American Communist activist, community organizer, political theorist.
12 rules for radicals.
Lest we forget at least an over-the-shoulder acknowledgment to the very first radical: from all our legends, mythology, and history (and who is to know where mythology leaves off and history begins — or which is which), the first radical known to man who rebelled against the establishment and did it so effectively that he at least won his own kingdom — Lucifer.
— SAUL ALINSKY
The rebel is seen as cool.
Snitches get stitches.
Rebellion at it’s core - is evil.
Ultimate Authority
Ultimate Authority
18 For thus says the Lord, who created the heavens (He is the God who formed the earth and made it, He established it and did not create it a waste place, but formed it to be inhabited),
“I am the Lord, and there is none else.
6 and he said, “O Lord, the God of our fathers, are You not God in the heavens? And are You not ruler over all the kingdoms of the nations? Power and might are in Your hand so that no one can stand against You.
Satan Rebelled against God’s authority
because he wanted to be like God.
12 “How you have fallen from heaven,
O star of the morning, son of the dawn!
You have been cut down to the earth,
You who have weakened the nations!
13 “But you said in your heart,
‘I will ascend to heaven;
I will raise my throne above the stars of God,
And I will sit on the mount of assembly
In the recesses of the north.
14 ‘I will ascend above the heights of the clouds;
I will make myself like the Most High.’
15 “Nevertheless you will be thrust down to Sheol,
To the recesses of the pit.
But why?
15 “You were blameless in your ways
From the day you were created
Until unrighteousness was found in you.
16 “By the abundance of your trade
You were internally filled with violence,
And you sinned;
Therefore I have cast you as profane
From the mountain of God.
And I have destroyed you, O covering cherub,
From the midst of the stones of fire.
17 “Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty;
You corrupted your wisdom by reason of your splendor.
I cast you to the ground;
I put you before kings,
That they may see you.
Satan became self focused instead of God Focused.
Satan tempted Adam and Eve with the same promise of becoming like God.
5 “For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
They went from being God focused to self focused.
10 He said, “I heard the sound of You in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid myself.”
11 And He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?”
They were naked the whole time! They were just so focused on God, that they didn’t notice.
There is a warning for those who rebel.
9 “Woe to the one who quarrels with his Maker—
An earthenware vessel among the vessels of earth!
Will the clay say to the potter, ‘What are you doing?’
Or the thing you are making say, ‘He has no hands’?
Rebellion agains God’s authority has consequences:
For the Serpent:
14 The Lord God said to the serpent,
“Because you have done this,
Cursed are you more than all cattle,
And more than every beast of the field;
On your belly you will go,
And dust you will eat
All the days of your life;
15 And I will put enmity
Between you and the woman,
And between your seed and her seed;
He shall bruise you on the head,
And you shall bruise him on the heel.”
For the woman:
16 To the woman He said,
“I will greatly multiply
Your pain in childbirth,
In pain you will bring forth children;
Yet your desire will be for your husband,
And he will rule over you.”
And for Man and the world:
17 Then to Adam He said, “Because you have listened to the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree about which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat from it’;
Cursed is the ground because of you;
In toil you will eat of it
All the days of your life.
18 “Both thorns and thistles it shall grow for you;
And you will eat the plants of the field;
19 By the sweat of your face
You will eat bread,
Till you return to the ground,
Because from it you were taken;
For you are dust,
And to dust you shall return.”
And for us:
2 But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God,
And your sins have hidden His face from you so that He does not hear.
12 Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned—
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
But God had a plan!
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
God granted authority to Jesus
20 which He brought about in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places,
21 far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come.
22 And He put all things in subjection under His feet, and gave Him as head over all things to the church,
23 which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.
18 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.
27 “All things have been handed over to Me by My Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father; nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son wills to reveal Him.
35 “The Father loves the Son and has given all things into His hand.
The Word of God is declared to have authority.
16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness;
You are either a bond servant or a rebel.
1 Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God.
