DO NOT FORGET TO UNMUTE
It’s TUESDAY the 15th day of September
Did you read in advance?
We’re back to the verse by verse study of the Book of Acts— Our discussion about the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost led us to the subject matter concerning “speaking in tongues”— and to have a thorough understanding on what “speaking in tongues” really is, we segued to 1 Corinthians 14
Now we know these facts about “speaking in tongues”:
SPEAKING IN TONGUES IS A MANIFESTATION OF THE INFILLING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
SPEAKING IN TONGUES IS A SPIRITUAL GIFT [1 CORINTHIANS 12:10]
BE EAGER TO PROPHESY, AND DO NOT FORBID SPEAKING IN TONGUES
EVERYTHING SHOULD BE DONE IN A FITTING AND ORDERLY WAY
If you remember early on, the Jewish people who came from different places that were attending the Pentecost mocked the disciples of being drunk because of their ability to “speak in tongues”— they were utterly amazed that these Galileans [setback community] were able to speak of God’s wonders in their language
It was the Holy Spirit that enabled them and these Jewish people who heard cannot understand, and so Peter stood up to address the crowd— let’s see what happened
Open your Bible to ACTS 2:14-21— once you get there type, “let’s hear it from Peter
Read ACTS 2:14-21

BOOK

Acts 2:14–21 NLT
14 Then Peter stepped forward with the eleven other apostles and shouted to the crowd, “Listen carefully, all of you, fellow Jews and residents of Jerusalem! Make no mistake about this. 15 These people are not drunk, as some of you are assuming. Nine o’clock in the morning is much too early for that. 16 No, what you see was predicted long ago by the prophet Joel: 17 ‘In the last days,’ God says, ‘I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams. 18 In those days I will pour out my Spirit even on my servants—men and women alike— and they will prophesy. 19 And I will cause wonders in the heavens above and signs on the earth below— blood and fire and clouds of smoke. 20 The sun will become dark, and the moon will turn blood red before that great and glorious day of the Lord arrives. 21 But everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’
WHAT: Peter addressed the crowd
WHEN: Pentecost
WHERE: Jerusalem
WHO: Peter with the eleven apostles and the disciples that are with them

LOOK

THESE PEOPLE ARE NOT DRUNK
It’s only 9 in the morning— Ephesians 5:18
IN THE LAST DAYS, GOD SAYS, I WILL POUR OUT MY SPIRIT ON ALL PEOPLE
In the last days is an O.T. language that refers to the final time before God’s impending ultimate judgment of all— it begun with the fulfilment of God’s promises through our Lord Jesus
Peter quoted God’s words spoken through Prophet Joel to explain the events of Pentecost— JOEL 2:28-32
YOUR SONS AND DAUGHTERS WILL PROPHESY
Greek “Prophetevo”— Strongs # 4395 which means foretell events, speak under inspiration of the Holy Spirit, to give a message from God
One of the Five-Fold Ministry or offices given by Christ Himself— Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors and Teachers
YOUR YOUNG MEN WILL SEE VISIONS
Greek “Horasis”— Strongs # 3706 which means an inspired appearance, sight , vision— images from God
YOUR OLD MEN WILL DREAM DREAMS
Greek “Enypnion”— Strong # 1798 which means something seen in sleep, dream, the events experienced in dreams are too vivid and real to be ignored
THE SUN WILL BE TURNED TO DARKNESS AND THE MOON TO BLOOD
Though these descriptions originally referred to the exodus plagues [EXODUS 10:22]
This language was also used by the prophets to describe signs of God’s coming judgment [JOEL 3:15]
AND EVERYONE WHO CALLS ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED
This was also repeated by Paul in ROMANS 10:13
But Jesus said something about true and false disciples written in MATTHEW 7:21 — are these scriptures contradicting? NO— the Lord just made it clear distinction between true and false disciples
