DO NOT FORGET TO UNMUTE
It’s THURSDAY the 17th day of September
For the past couple of days we looked at the very first sermon of apostle Peter after he [along with the rest of the Lord’s disciples], were enabled by the Holy Spirit
This sermon was his response to how the crowd reacted when they saw and heard the disciples “spoke in tongues”— the crowd looked down on them as unlearned since they’re from Galilee [an set back far away town] whom they perceive nothing good comes out of it
Because the sermon was quite long, we divided it in three parts so that we can thoroughly understand the core of Peter’s message— from the first two parts of three, we learned the following:
THE HOLY SPIRIT IS POURED OUT IN ME
TRUE DISCIPLES WHO CALLS ON HIS NAME WILL BE SAVED
JESUS IS WITH ME, I WILL NOT BE SHAKEN
HIS PRESENCE FILLS ME WITH JOY
The first two points was actually made by Peter himself— while the last two was quoted from king David
Did you know that our Lord Jesus is a descendant of king David?
We’ll see about that as we glean into the culmination of Peter’s sermon— Open your Bible to ACTS 2:29-41— once you get there, I’d like you to type, “let’s see how Peter’s sermon ended!
Read ACTS 2:29-41

BOOK

Acts 2:29–41 NLT
29 “Dear brothers, think about this! You can be sure that the patriarch David wasn’t referring to himself, for he died and was buried, and his tomb is still here among us. 30 But he was a prophet, and he knew God had promised with an oath that one of David’s own descendants would sit on his throne. 31 David was looking into the future and speaking of the Messiah’s resurrection. He was saying that God would not leave him among the dead or allow his body to rot in the grave. 32 “God raised Jesus from the dead, and we are all witnesses of this. 33 Now he is exalted to the place of highest honor in heaven, at God’s right hand. And the Father, as he had promised, gave him the Holy Spirit to pour out upon us, just as you see and hear today. 34 For David himself never ascended into heaven, yet he said, ‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit in the place of honor at my right hand 35 until I humble your enemies, making them a footstool under your feet.” ’ 36 “So let everyone in Israel know for certain that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, to be both Lord and Messiah!” 37 Peter’s words pierced their hearts, and they said to him and to the other apostles, “Brothers, what should we do?” 38 Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 This promise is to you, to your children, and to those far away—all who have been called by the Lord our God.” 40 Then Peter continued preaching for a long time, strongly urging all his listeners, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation!” 41 Those who believed what Peter said were baptized and added to the church that day—about 3,000 in all.

LOOK

HE WOULD PLACE ONE OF HIS DESCENDANTS ON HIS THRONE
Peter started to explain what he quoted king David said in Psalms— that God promised David that He would place one of his descendants on his throne— “Davidic Covenant”
Going back to the question earlier if Jesus is a descendant of king David— you can find the answer to that in MATTHEW 1:1-16— The Genealogy of Jesus— verse 5-6, 16— Luke 1:32-33
GOD RAISED THIS JESUS TO LIFE, AND WE ARE ALL WITNESS OF IT
When we studied the gospel of John— we saw many many accounts of events when Jesus revealed His glorified self to his disciples
THE PROMISED HOLY SPIRIT HAS POURED OUT WHAT YOU NOW SEE AND HEAR
This is now the fulfilment of the Lords promise in ACTS 1:8
UNTIL I MAKE YOUR ENEMIES A FOOTSTOOL FOR YOUR FEET
Footstool is a kind of chair where you can rest your feet on— Peter’s interpretation of this psalm of David was the vision of time when the Messiah would reign and all His enemies would be conquered
GOD HAS MADE THIS JESUS, WHOM YOU CRUCIFIED, BOTH LORD AND MESSIAH
The Jewish mob who killed Jesus had grossly misunderstood Him— God still used their actions to authenticate Him as both king of Israel and the fulfilment of the promise about the Messiah
BROTHERS WHAT SHALL WE DO?
They were cut to the heart— in other words, convicted of what they’ve done to Jesus
REPENT AND BE BAPTIZED, EVERYONE OF YOU, IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST
Baptism comes after repentance— we talked about this previously in great detail that water baptism is the “baptism of repentance”— “Baptism in the Holy Spirit” is another experience— It is a second act of grace for the believers to receive power and gifts of the Holy Spirit
With many other words, Peter warned them, and he pleaded with them and said…
SAVE YOURSELVES FROM THIS CORRUPT GENERATION
Those who accepted Peter’s message were baptized, and...
ABOUT THREE THOUSAND WERE ADDED TO THEIR NUMBER THAT DAY
The church of our Lord Jesus Christ was born— first they believed, then they were baptized, and then they belonged— 3 B’s BELIEVE | BAPTIZE | BELONG
