Who Am I?

Genesis 1:26–27 ESV
Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
Who am I?
creation of God
made in His image...
What does it mean to be made in the image of God?
Physically?
Spiritually?
Emotionally?
Relationally?
Dominion
Pro-creation
Does God make mistakes?
no..
Then what happened?
If we are all made in the image of God, and God is love, why is there evil everywhere?
The fall.
Adam and Eve chose to not follow God.
They chose to reject God’s authority.
What happened to the image of God in us at the fall?
before - naturally good
after - bent toward evil
How does God think of me now that I don’t fully reflect His image?
Psalm 139:13–16 ESV
For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.
When did God start loving you?
before you were conceived
What does that tell you about God’s plan for you?
He knew me before I was born.
He knows the number of my days, before I lived.
What does that mean to you?
God cares about me and has a plan for me individually.
Jeremiah 29:11–13 ESV
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.
What kind of plans does God have for you?
blessings
What kind of blessings?
to be in relationship with Him.
Romans 5:6–8 ESV
For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
What is my true self-value?
Value is what someone is willing to pay for something.
Jesus paid it all.
Jesus paid His own life.
The most expensive purchase in the universe.

Self-Esteem vs. Self-Value

What does it mean to esteem someone?
to regard highly or favorably;
regard with respect or admiration.
Romans 12:3 ESV
For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned.
One of the biggest problems with our world is what?
pride!
What sin controlled the heart of Satan and started this mess?
pride!
What is the difference between self-esteem and self-value?
Philippians 2:3 ESV
Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.
Who are we supposed to “esteem”?
others!
Philippians 2:5–8 ESV
Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
Christians should be like Christ. What was Christ like?
