Isaiah 30:15 NLT
This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says: “Only in returning to me and resting in me will you be saved. In quietness and confidence is your strength. But you would have none of it.
What was the context of this comment from God?
Isaiah 30:2–3 NLT
For without consulting me, you have gone down to Egypt for help. You have put your trust in Pharaoh’s protection. You have tried to hide in his shade. But by trusting Pharaoh, you will be humiliated, and by depending on him, you will be disgraced.
Hezekiah was being threatened by Assyria
Assyria was a HUGE country
PICTURE
Hezekiah had apparently sent ambassadors to Egypt looking for their help
God is warning them that trusting in Egypt instead of him is actually going to weaken them
Isaiah 30:16–17 NLT
You said, ‘No, we will get our help from Egypt. They will give us swift horses for riding into battle.’ But the only swiftness you are going to see is the swiftness of your enemies chasing you! One of them will chase a thousand of you. Five of them will make all of you flee. You will be left like a lonely flagpole on a hill or a tattered banner on a distant mountaintop.”
What do we lean on when we are fearful or challenged?
Marriage:
arguing, proving you are right-they are wrong
Finances:
Do less than ethical things (taxes)
Work too many jobs and lose important relations
Give to Cesar what is God’s
Illness:
Hezekiah illness-death was prophesied
But he trusted God and interceded..
Given 15 years-BUT- Still had to apply ointment to the boil
Career:
Trying to get in good with your boss so they will promote you
Throw shade on someone so you look better than them
God gives them instruction on what they need to do to be protected
Isaiah 30:15 NLT
This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says: “Only in returning to me and resting in me will you be saved. In quietness and confidence is your strength. But you would have none of it.
Returning to me:
This is not God’s ego at work-demanding worship
This is God calling them back to what is their true safety
“resting”, “quietness”, “confidence” is your strength
God is waiting for us to do this.

18 So the LORD must wait for you to come to him

so he can show you his love and compassion.

For the LORD is a faithful God.

Blessed are those who wait for his help.
