Introduction. No miracles in John but signs. Only seven major signs pointing to something far more important than the event. One might have expected a score or more, but there are only seven chief signs. Three of these events were told earlier in Matthew, Mark and Luke.
Introduction. No miracles in John but signs. Only seven major signs pointing to something far more important than the event. One might have expected a score or more, but there are only seven chief signs. Three of these events were told earlier in Matthew, Mark and Luke.
I. TURNING WATER INTO WINE (John 2:6-11, 23)
1. First in order—water into wine at Cana
2. Jesus and Mother walked 8 to 10 miles east from Nazareth to Cana.
a. Nation and the Church are upheld by family.
b. “Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.”
3. All in town were invited.
a. Food and wine provided for about a week.
b. They were exhausted after their long walk.
4. Quantity changed; Wine calculated at 200 gallons.
a. Notice that Jesus (after Mary’s insistence) used materials at hand
(water).
b. Lesson: Use your own circumstances.
