Weeks

The Hebrew week (שבוע, Shavua) is a cycle of seven days, mirroring the seven-day period of the Book of Genesis in which the world is created. Each day of the week runs from sunset to the following sunset and is figured locally. The weekly cycle, which runs concurrently with but independently of the monthly and annual cycles.

Names of weekdays

The names for the days of the week are simply the day number within the week, with Shabbat being the seventh day. In Hebrew, these names may be abbreviated using the numerical value of the Hebrew letters, for example יום א׳‎ (Day 1, or Yom Rishon (יום ראשון‎)):

The names of the days of the week are modeled on the seven days mentioned in the creation story (Genesis 1).
For example, Genesis 1:8 "... And there was evening and there was morning, a second day" corresponds to Yom Sheni meaning "second day".
The seventh day, Shabbat, as its Hebrew name indicates, is a day of rest in Judaism. In Talmudic Hebrew, the word Shabbat (שַׁבָּת‎) can also mean "week",[10] so that in ritual liturgy a phrase like "Yom Reviʻi beShabbat" means "the fourth day in the week"

How important was it that the “Sabbath” be kept?

What activities constitute “work?”

“In the years after the temple was rebuilt following the exile (515 BC – to the time of Jesus/Yeshua), scribes and rabbis studied the words of Scripture, interpreting every detail. What kinds of work could be allowed on the Sabbath within the Law? For example, according to the Law, no work was to be done on the Sabbath, so that meant burdens were not to be carried on that day.” ref: “The Jesus Bible”

Jesus/Yeshua gave better understanding of what can be done on the Sabbath.

Why did Jesus/Yeshua say he was the “Lord of The Sabbath”?

3. Was the Sabbath changed to Sunday?

“THE DAY OF THE LORD!”

“The Day of The Lord?” Sunday advocates strongly hold to these verses as evidence to the Sabbath was changed.

Edict of Constantine at the “Council of Nicea”

On 3 March 321, Constantine I decreed that Sunday (dies Solis) will be observed as the Roman day of rest [CJ3.12.2]: On the venerable day of the Sun let the magistrates and people residing in cities rest, and let all workshops be closed. In the country however persons engaged in agriculture may freely and lawfully continue their pursuits because it often happens that another day is not suitable for grain-sowing or vine planting; lest by neglecting the proper moment for such operations the bounty of heaven should be lost.

Council of Laodicea

Canon 29: Christians must not judaize by resting on the Sabbath, but must work on that day, rather honouring the Lord's Day; and, if they can, resting then as Christians. But if any shall be found to be judaizers, let them be anathema from Christ.

Catechism of the Council of Trent,

In the Augsburg Confession,

They [the Catholics] allege the Sabbath changed into Sunday, the Lord’s day, contrary to the decalogue, as it appears; neither is there any example more boasted of than the changing of the Sabbath day. Great, they say, is the power and authority of the church, since it dispensed with one of the ten commandments. —Art. 28.

5. Is Jesus/Yeshua the Sabbath?

Many say that Jesus/Yeshua is our Sabbath because we now have rest in Him and don’t have to labour for our salvation.

Many Say Paul said in Romans chapter 7 we no longer are to keep the law.

6. Is the Sabbath only for the Jews?

Did Disciples Kept the Sabbath 85 Times in the book of Acts or were they just evangelistic endeavors to preach “The Gospel”?

CONCLUSION

If the Sabbath was changed to Sunday (First day of the week), why isn’t declarative in scripture.
I agree Jesus/Yeshua is our rest as stated in Hebrews 4:1-10 but, wouldn’t that further give meaning to the Sabbath, not abolish it?
Shouldn’t we keep the Sabbath as love to God not as a act of obtaining righteousness. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. 1 john 4:2
