                                                           BLOOD COVENANT 3

                                                                      Ref. 1448

BIBLE READING: 1 Samuel 18

INTRODUCTION:

Here we have a picture of the very covenant we have been speaking of in the last Bible Study.

Not all of the details are mentioned because they were understood. But they were all there.

Three characters are evident in 1 Samuel.

      1. Saul - who had a natural yen to the opposite of God's will. He had a bias to sin.

      2. David - who loved God, and often failed to do what was right, but he wanted to please God.

      3. Jonathan - a walking "question mark" of Saul’s family but of David's nature.

a.   The Covenant 1 Samuel 18:3-4 And Jonathan made a covenant with David because he loved him as himself. Jonathan took off the robe he was wearing and gave it to David, along with his tunic, and even his sword, his bow and his belt.

b.   Covenant renewed - (read) 1 Samuel 20:11-17

   c. Saul and Jonathan die - 1 Samuel 31:1-6

   d. Mephibosheth - 2 Samuel 4:4, 9:1-8

        i. David shows kindness.

ii. Mephibosheth says he is unworthy.

iii. David does not treat him kindly as a reward, but because of covenant relationship with Jonathan.

iv. Big decision, if he accepts he dies to one relationship - Machir in Lo-debar, and comes alive to a new relationship with David.

        v. From rags to riches - desert to palace

vi. Naturally an enemy - but the scar reminds him of covenant grace.

e.   I belong to the family of Saul - we don't like the 10 commandments, we don't naturally like David's way of life. We are brainwashed with Satan's lies.

f.    Then someone who was born into our Saul’s family, our Jonathan's name is JESUS. He does not naturally belong there. He is our brother. How many human lives is God worth. The Creator is worth all His creation.

g.   Last Supper - Jesus said to His disciples. "This is the blood of the New Covenant". Jesus covenanted with the Father, and WE were IN HIM, on the cross He cried, "It is finished".

h.   After the covenant was established it had to be sealed. So the Spirit was sent. Ephesians 1:13 EPH 1:13  And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit,".
