Introduction: Give thanks with a grateful heart.
Thank you goes a long way. Thank you is a polite thing. It was apart of the learning our “ Please and Thank you’s”
Thank you in today’s culture is still very widely used. We still teach people to use it in business practices.
When i was in youth group ( which was my first church experience i didn’t grow up in church) we would go on trips to Ci Ci Pizza and they would say when you walk in the door they would say “Welcome to Ci Ci’s” and on your way out they would say thank you for eating at Ci Ci’s we made it a game to sneek out the front door and make it to the church van without them saying Thank you to us. I worked at Wal greens i really loved that job because i had the best manager i had every had ever in my whole carreer of working places. She was great and willing to work with my scheduel around what i needed for church. But as a cashier we had to say “ Hi welcome to Walgreens and as people let we had to say Thank you for shopping at Walgreens even if you were with another customer. There are things called secret shoppers and they rate your preformance for the company you work for and they tell you what they want to make sure in every store they see and what is said to the customer and that was one of the big things saying those things to the customer and if you didn’t and it was a secret shopper and you got points taken off the score you would make over all on the rating. Then the big bosess would call the store manager and then there would be a meeting as to how to imporve our score that score was thought to enhance the customers over all shopping experience and the Thank you at the end was a big deal.
If you don’t say Thank you to people who do stuff for you the likely hood that they will continue to do what they are doing for you. At my job i don’t have to be told thank you because i’m gonna go to work for my pay check. I’m getting paid to do a good job. My thank you is my hard earned pay check. But when they do come around and say thank you it really helps the moral. When they actually do nice things like buy us breakfast burritos for a thank you it makes us feel good.
Then there are people who are always fishing to be recognized and thank for the things that they do. To be honest with you we should tell people thank you especially if they are doing something good that they were not asked to do, but there are some things that don’t require a thank you all the time. My daughter should clean her room. If she cleans it i should always say thank you not exactly that is the grown up thing to do. We don’t get thank you’s for doing the right things or helping where help needs to be had.
Well lets get into some scripture and see what God says we should say thank you too and what we should be grateful for he tells us what is appropriate to be thank ful for.
We have about 30 days till the month that we all intentionally are thankful for things for a whole month even on face book. Day 1 i’m thankful for Day 2 i’m thankful

And He took the seven loaves and the fish and gave thanks, broke them and gave them to His disciples; and the disciples gave to the multitude.
Then He took the cup, and when He had given thanks He gave it to them, and they all drank from it.
When Jesus ate with his disciples he gave thanks for provision. Food today is more plentiful than it was back then and it was a real provision of God for them to have the sustinance they needed.
We should give thanks for his great name.

Rejoice in the Lord, you righteous, And give thanks at the remembrance of His holy name.
We should give thanks for God’s holiness and his righteousness and that he is a Good Good Father.
Where the tribes go up, The tribes of the Lord, To the Testimony of Israel, To give thanks to the name of the Lord.
Give thanks in the name of the Lord. We are one of his tribe. We should give thanks to him. The Lords prayer says his name in the very first Part.
Our Father who art in Heaven hallowed be they name. Hallowed means- great reverend ed and honored
Sing praise to the Lord, you saints of His, And give thanks at the remembrance of His holy name.
Remembrance that he is perfect, that he is almighty, that he is Holy because if he wasn’t holy we would not know what evil is, we wouldn’t know a holy standard to live by to be blessed. We wouldn’t know that we need Jesus.
“Now therefore, our God, We thank You And praise Your glorious name.
Glorious name.
What are the names for God oh so many. Father, Lord, Friend, Healer, Forgiver, Saver, Lover, Merciful One, Grace giving......etc all the attributes of God can be his names God is my Redeemer, God is my Rock, God is my Champion, God is my King, God is my Victory, Oh the many glorious names of Our Lord, Holy Spirit, Jesus Christ.

This Psalm says it 3 times wow! Three times the trinity, Three in Biblical number divine wholeness, completeness and perfection. 3 is the number of perfection. God’s perfect Mercy.

Do you see that phrase his mercy endures forever. David wrote every phrase. King David and he had alot to be thankful for he took Bathsheba had her husband killed and if you read the story of David even after the baby dies from this union his life is full of ups and downs and God never leaves him. A couple of his sons give him lots of trouble over his kingdom. yet King David wrote all these Psalms “ for his mercy endures forever.”

At midnight I will rise to give thanks to You, Because of Your righteous judgments.
At any hour give Thanks. Have you ever woke up in the middle of the night and it’s like 157am and your wide a wake for just a few min and then your like why in the world am i awake, is it possible that it’s this reason. God is waking us up to give thanks. I mean i know there are times when you stay up because your heart is broken. You stay up because your mind is so messed up and you need to pray for your peace of mind..... but maybe the reason God is waking you up sometimes and no one comes to mind it may just be to rise and give thanks in the midnight.
Give thanks not just at any hour but in any season.
Rejoice always,
pray without ceasing,
in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
In Everything give thanks, in everything you do, In every word or deed- do all in Jesus name and Give thanks to God the Father in everything through Jesus again showing that we need to pray in Jesus name.

Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men,
This verse tells us that giving of thanks be made for all men- all man kind. We are supposed to give thanks for all humanity. All the people of the world God’s creation. The people we love, the people we like, the people we don’t like. That’s exactly what love your enemies means. So give thanks for your enemies.
Give thanks that your boss is a jerk. Give thanks that the employee is not doing his job. Give thanks for those who hurt us. Give thanks for the people that frustrate us. Give thanks for that person who just drives us crazy. Give thanks for that difficult person we have to work with. Many times in the letters Apostle Paul writes that he gives thanks for the people that he is writing to and shortly after he corrects them or directs them in the things of God. Even when they are not walking the way they are supposed to for Jesus for the gospel and he knows he is goign to have to say the the hard things to them in his letter he gives thanks for them.
We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers,
I thank my God, making mention of you always in my prayers,
I thank my God always concerning you for the grace of God which was given to you by Christ Jesus,
do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers:
I will give You thanks in the great assembly; I will praise You among many people.
This Psalm says give thanks in the great assembly we learned before that the church means and assembly. We can give appreciation and admiration to God in worship and praise. But he asks us to give thanks together as a church.

But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Giving thanks to God who gives us victory over all kinds of things over those who oppress us, over our addictions, over our struggles, over our sin. In our relationships, In our families, in Our ministry. To God be the Glory and the Victory he is the one that is the Victor. Without God we are not victorious.
Oh, sing to the Lord a new song! For He has done marvelous things; His right hand and His holy arm have gained Him the victory.
Oh, give thanks to the Lord! Call upon His name; Make known His deeds among the peoples!
We give thanks to You, O God, we give thanks! For Your wondrous works declare that Your name is near.
Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!
