That pesky matter of holding fast
Already dealt with
This gives the reason why we must—and why we can...hold fast
>Not another exploration of how
Better than...

Angels
Moses
Any high priest
Imagery relates to the duties of the High Priest on the Day of Atonement
The day the nation would again be “at one” with God...
He Has Passed through the Heavens
He Has Passed through the Heavens
No one has ascended into heaven except he who descended from heaven, the Son of Man.
Therefore it says, “When he ascended on high he led a host of captives, and he gave gifts to men.”
Trumps any high priest
He is the Son of God
He is the Son of God
A unique son
monogenes, from genos—only member of its kind
For to which of the angels did God ever say, “You are my Son, today I have begotten you”? Or again, “I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son”?
Begotten—become the parent of
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
monogenes—singular, one of a kind, from the verb: gennao
Best understanding
Only begotten—can cause misunderstandings
He Can Sympathize
He Can Sympathize
With our weaknesses
As opposed to empathize
What’s the difference?
He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
Been there…done that....
…hit his thumb with a hammer
…dropped timbers on his toes—no steel-toed sandals
But more, abused, misunderstood—even by His friends
Killed at the request of His own people
He Has Been Tempted
He Has Been Tempted
As in the wilderness Luke 4
Hunger for sustenance Luke 4:2-4
Man shall not live by bread alone...
Power and notoriety Luke 4:5-8
You shall worship the Lord your God and Him only shall you serve
Adoration, Luke 4 9-12
You shall not put the Lord your God to the test
He Has Opened the Way to the Throne of Grace
He Has Opened the Way to the Throne of Grace
The biggest thing is the matter of forgiveness
Christ himself intercedes…no more need of the priests
Direct access
He has become the door by which we enter the throne-room of God
The tearing of the temple veil clearly signifies this
Other implications
We can take any need to the Father in the name of the Son
In that day you will ask nothing of me. Truly, truly, I say to you, whatever you ask of the Father in my name, he will give it to you.
Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.
No high priest, nor angel, nor Moses, ever had that kind of power!
