The Gifts That Get Things Done

1 Peter 4:10 - “Just as each one has received a gift, use it to serve others, as good stewards of the varied grace of God.”

A leader never graduates from service. A biblical leader is ALWAYS servant leader.

No matter what gift you have been given by the Holy Spirit, your purpose remains.

Edify one another.

Give Glory to God.

For the next 4 weeks, we will talk about individual gifts written in scripture.

‘Today, I want to talk about the “Gifts that get things done.”

1. Leadership - Romans 12:8

8 if exhorting, in exhortation; giving, with generosity; leading, with diligence; showing mercy, with cheerfulness.

“To stand before”. The person with the gift of leadership is instructed to lead with diligence.

Diligence includes the idea of hard work, earnestness, and zeal. One with the gift of leadership cares not only for the cause of the church but also the people involved in the cause.

Moses was leader. He proved that you don’t have to be the 1st to volunteer, have a good speaking voice, a great manager of time /details, or that a leader is always followed by everyone.

Think of a gifted leader that has touched your life.

What motivates you? What about a leader’s quality has motivated you?

A strong leader recognizes God as their supreme leader and follow’s His marching orders.

The body of Christ functions well with leaders who will stand before the church and provide direction with the heart of God in mind.

2. Administration - 1 Corinthians 12:28

28 And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, next miracles, then gifts of healing, helping, leading, various kinds of tongues

The leader and administrator are sometimes hard to tell apart.

“one who steers the ship.”

The gifted administrator enhances the flow of information in the church.

Mitigates between the leader and the body of Christ.

Joseph was a great example of a person serving #2 to a leader during his time in Egypt.

A person with vision that can see the big picture is wonderful, but someone must understand and appreciate that vision in order to carry out God’s plan.

Everyone architect must have a good contractor or they are just drawing expensive pictures.

The body of Christ needs administrators who can carry out the vision God has for the church.

3. Service & Helps (Philippians 2:1-7)

2 If, then, there is any encouragement in Christ, if any consolation of love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, 2 make my joy complete by thinking the same way, having the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose. 3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility consider others as more important than yourselves. 4 Everyone should look not to his own interests, but rather to the interests of others.

CHRIST’S HUMILITY AND EXALTATION

5 Adopt the same attitude as that of Christ Jesus,

6 who, existing in the form of God,

did not consider equality with God

as something to be exploited.

7 Instead he emptied himself

by assuming the form of a servant,

taking on the likeness of humanity.

And when he had come as a man,

Every healthy church has people working behind the scenes instead of working in front of people.

the gifts of service and helps are supernatural expressions of Christlike attitudes.

They are not leftover gifts.

The 1st deacons were selected to wait on tables and serve widows in the church.

It is not uncommon for the person with the gift of service to have a faithful helper.

Our church is filled with people who have the gift of service or helps.

God has important work for you to do! We must call you forth— for your own good and the common good of the body.

4. Giving (2 Corinthians 2:8-9)

8 Therefore I urge you to reaffirm your love to him. 9 I wrote for this purpose: to test your character to see if you are obedient in everything.

Jesus Christ is the supreme model of giving from a position of wealth.

Gifted givers give with purpose and sometimes do not want the recipient to know the source of the gift, but they want to ensure it is used for the purpose they intend.

What would we do if God gave us ample funds to serve Him?

If you don’t have the gift of giving, are you excused from tithing?

The gift of giving is not only for the rich.

Conclusion

As we continue discussing spiritual gifts, I don’t want you to pigeonhole yourself.

These gifts are all of grace to be used to edify one another and to give give God glory.

God gifts people to get things done because the church is a “culture mover”.

Jesus did not come to abide in the culture. He came to take over.

The body of Christ is in need of people who will live under the Lordship of God and get things done in His direction.
