New International Version
21 For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. 22 If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know! 23 I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far; 24 but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body. 25 Convinced of this, I know that I will remain, and I will continue with all of you for your progress and joy in the faith, 26 so that through my being with you again your boasting in Christ Jesus will abound on account of me.
27 Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in the one Spirit,[a] striving together as one for the faith of the gospel 28 without being frightened in any way by those who oppose you. This is a sign to them that they will be destroyed, but that you will be saved—and that by God. 29 For it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not only to believe in him, but also to suffer for him, 30 since you are going through the same struggle you saw I had, and now hear that I still have.

Talking point 1
Talking point 1
These are contrary points that you will disprove
These are contrary points that you will disprove
- God has set our musical stage
- We are brought here born in Act I
- We make certain decisions take us to various directions in this “musical that we call life.”
- We are all different ages in different “Acts of our ‘musical’ (Act 2, Act 4, beginning act
- But unlike Alexander Hamilton – If we take a close look at our lives we might see that we are “wasting our shot.”
- Are we making the most of every moment.
- Steve Covey “Living, loving, leaving a legacy?”
- Are we living for Christ or sitting around waiting to die to “gain” a seat in heaven??””

Recap the scripture story – retell and give the overview
Recap the scripture story – retell and give the overview
In light of the fact that God has called the Philippian church in the midst of their persecution and God has told them that what He has started in them he will finish. As Paul is awaiting his trial which will possibly lead to execution, he writes to thank them for their support and to encourage them to live for Christ as opposed to giving up on life and just hanging out to die. Because when you live for Christ others are blessed first edified and built up.
You just have one shot. Don’t waste your shot!!
Proposition
- What is the claim? (relevance for today)
The scripture wants us to do (what?)
Live a life that is alive that is worthy of the calling that God has placed in your life lives.
The scripture wants us to do this by (how?) We shall do this by dying to ourselves and our fleshly desires so that we can live a fulfilling life in Jesus Christ.
The scripture wants us to take action towards who/what/whereby (to who?) We shall take action in our own lives by not living selfishly. Looking forward to the day that we will die and see Christ. But to live abundantly for the Lord now.
- What is the focus? (pull from your exegesis form)
This passage centers around living a life that is worthy.
which is the central, controlling and unifying theme of the sermon. One word here: (the power that you have now)
life/living/(stop playing it safe) is the idea that drives the theme.
The theme is related to how the devil can scare us into a daily life of mediocrity. The causes us to miss fulfillment.
- What is the function?
The hearers will be changed by the message because they will wake up and realize first the God has started a good work in them and that He intends to take it to completion. But this cannot happen until that stop “dying”. Or allowing death to kill everything around them that is important.
As a result, they will approach life in Christ differently each day. They will stop allowing life to kill them. You are already dying. They will realize that they have to get it done now.
People don’t realize that:
Their days are numbered; God has a calling and that you can’t get it done in the grave.
They will have revelation ah, a-ha, moment about I have opportunity to live now a Christ fulfilled life that will not only bless me but bless people around me. Don’t waste your shot

To die is gain…to die to is gain only for myself.
Break this down and explain this.

***try to develop two subpoints for each point…
Point 1 - Subpoint 1- When we choose “Gain we cop out”
Talking Point 1
- Paul has come face to face with the fact that he may live or die.
- whether we realize it it or not we are in the same position.
- the word of God tells us that any man born of a woman will die.
-we are all headed to the grave.
- the only difference is that we are not in prison with a execution sentence hanging over our head.
-we do find ourselves imprisoned in the cares of life. Flash floods fires presidential elections COVID-19 all have us worried about dying.
- but at the same time all of these things have us in prison in our own minds.
- PAUL SAYS THAT HE WANTS TO “BREAK CAMP”. AND MANY OF US FEEL THE SAME WAY.
- Why do we want to cop out?
- tired, lazy, sick of dealing with those fools. (sick and tired of being sick and tired)
- easir to just die – death is the easy way out.
- Famous line from Hamilton.
- Dying is easy but living is harder.
- What will you gain. Only personal relief and the world will not be blessed and others will not feel the touch of Jesus Christ you have in your life.
Point 1 - Subpoint 2- We choose life with Christ whe we suffer for him
Talking Point 1
- We must choose life in Christ.
- It’s not the easy way
- It not the fun way
- It’s the way that will get you stepped on talked about
- It’s the way that will get ostracized by your friends, thrown to the side.
- Living for Christ brings a new way of thinking, acting, all things are new!
Supporting Scripture
1 John 5:11-13 11 And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.

-Romans 12:2
2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Choose a mind of Christ..choose to live

Living for Christ means and you are blessed and others are blessed by your words, your actions, you spirit, your songs, your business, your encouragement and your presences.
- What is the focus? (pull from your exegesis form)
which is the central, controlling and unifying theme of the sermon. One word here: (the power that you have now)
life/living/(stop playing it safe) is the idea that drives the theme.
The theme is related to Has the devil scared us into a daily life of mediocrity.
Scared to love people, scared to forgive, scared to minister scared to reach to to those we.
SCARED TO FORGIVE OURSELVES OF PAST SINS!!
***try to develop two subpoints for each point…
Point 2 - Subpoint 1- To share is selfless stay with christ we find purpose
Talking Point 1
- it is a living for Christ that will move us forward in life.
- Hamilton: dying (giving up) is easy but living is harder. (say a second time explaning)
- Arguing is easy but reasoning together is harder
- Being mad at you spouse is easy but asking them for forgiveness is harder.
- Something about apologizing when you were “right” for the sake of the sake of the relationship (argument was stupid anyway)
- We don’t want die and give up, we want to die to our selfishness so that we can live for Christ and bless others!!
Talking Point 2
- Can we look beyond our circumstances to see that by our living for Christ we can bless those around us.
- Or will we choose to remain in our prison??!!
Illustration-
Jackaal saw the badger wrapped up by the snake.
At first it walked by, thinking I don’t like that badger anyway.
But then it realized, the next time that snake is gonna come looking for my, family, my relatives and my children.
Jackaal went back and began bitting the snake and pulled the sane off the badger and badger got hold of the snake and tore it to shreds. Living for Christ means that sometimes you have to work with people you don’t like,
But in the end we’ve gotta tear that old snake the devil to get him out of our homes, schools and GOVERNMENT!!
TAKE A STAND AND LIVE FOR CHRIST!!

- What is the function?
The hearers will be change by the message because they will wake up and realize first God has started a good work in them and that He intends to take it to completion. (Beginning of Chapter 1)Phil 1: 3 I thank my God every time I remember you. 4 In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy 5 because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, 6 being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
But this cannot happen until that stop the selfish “dying”. We keep our selfish desires and allow the things of Christ to die. (It’s easy to cop out)
As a result, they will approach life in Christ differently each day. They will stop allowing life to kill them. You are already dying. They will realize that they have to get it done now.

You have opportunity to live now a Christ fulfilled life that will not only bless me but bless people around me. As you realize this salvation and life in Christ there will be a struggle.
I know this because a year before Paul wrote to the Phillipian church he wrote this to the church at Corinth in his first letter to them he said.
King James Bible (slowly!!)
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.
Yes. There is a struggle but your labor will not be in vain.
God knows. You are working, striving, doing all you can do
But hold and to God’s unchanging hand!!
***try to develop two subpoints for each point…
Point 3 - Subpoint 1- There is a privilege to believe
Talking Point 1
- Suffering for Christ is how we live out the story of Christ in our lives.
- Dying for our gain is not an option.
Illustration – Celebration Closing
- Last week told you about my plants and work and what I thought they might look like.
- Call from boss go pick up the mail. Okay. Went in just as I expected. Vines – gossipers – Peace – Lilly – form of Godliness – Gone – Artificial plant – ok. It was already dead.
- Went to stubby plant –
- Even though it had survived – It was leaned over and was truly on its last leg. I went and got some water and lifted it up opened the blinds (brough refreshing water and light
- When you are working for the lord. Stay encouraged and don’t give up keep on pressing. Allow God to use you and if you are tired don’t give up. If you are leaning over and about to fall over. Hold one. Help is on the way.
God may not come when you want him. But he is right on time. Keep on leaning but keep on living for Christ.
(some have given up)
Christ did not give up on us.
The tried him in an rigged court, whipped him all night long. Crucified him on a cross between two thieves. Buried him an borrowed tomb. But on the 3rd day. He got up. He got up with all power in his hands!
And today we are leaning and living on his every lasting arms!

Right now I accept that Jesus is my Lord and savior.
