1. The Good News must be received and stood in to be good news
1. The Good News must be received and stood in to be good news
Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
You must first hear the good news (It was preached to them)
You must second understand the good news (For them to receive they must have clearly understood)
You must third believe (receive by turning from all other and believing only it for a relationship with God) the good news (They received and stood in it)
2. The Good News Purpose Is Salvation
2. The Good News Purpose Is Salvation
By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
To be saved means to be delivered
We need to be saved (delivered) from our sin
Sin kills and destroys and makes it where we cannot have a relationship with God
This Good News, heard, understood and believed, will save us from that sin, give us a relationship with God and a home in Heaven when we die
3. The Good News Is About Jesus
3. The Good News Is About Jesus
For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles.
The Good news is that Christ died (Jesus was beaten, had a crown of thorns placed upon His head, was nailed to a cross and hung from it, after suffering for hours a spear was pierced into His side) for sin (And we are all sinners, sin is breaking God’s law and we have chosen to break his law time and time again leaving us in need of saving) according to the scriptures (we learn of Christ sacrifice from the Bible and we must believe it to be saved) (1 Corinthians 15:3)
The Good news is that Christ was buried (He was put in a tomb for 3 days, this proved that He was truly dead after they took Him off the cross)(1 Corinthians 15:4)
The Good news is that Christ rose from the dead (He bodily got up from the grave proving He was God in flesh, exactly who He said He was, completing the payment for our sins) according to the scriptures (He did this exactly like the Bible said He would in all the prophecies of scripture) (1 Corinthians 15:4)
The Good news is that once risen Christ was seen by many (proving that He was really alive) (1 Corinthians 15:5-7)
