Trusting God in the Middle of a Storm

text: Matt 14:28-33

28 And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. 29 And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. 31 And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt? 32 And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased. 33 Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.

Introduction:

From the time Jesus gave the disciples the assignment until the fulfilment, a storm arose.
in life you can be assured that before you accomplish what God has said you will face storms.
How can i make it through the storm to fulfill my calling? Jesus expected Peter to walk in faith and not to doubt.
Proverbs 3:5–7 KJV 1900
5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; And lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, And he shall direct thy paths. 7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: Fear the Lord, and depart from evil.
Proverbs 3:5–7 The Message
5 Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. 6 Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track. 7 Don’t assume that you know it all. Run to God! Run from evil!

Storm Defined:

a storm is a disturbance in your atmosphere physically or spiritually
Point 1 Peter did what the other disciples didn’t do.
what gave him the ability to do what the others didn’t is because he asked and Jesus gave him his word , which have authority and produce faith.
Romans 10:17 TPT
Faith, then, is birthed in a heart that responds to God’s anointed utterance of the Anointed One.
Matthew 14:28–29 TPT
28 Peter shouted out, “Lord, if it’s really you, then have me join you on the water!” 29 “Come and join me,” Jesus replied. So Peter stepped out onto the water and began to walk toward Jesus.
we need to hear from God and he has granted us that promise.
in this season in our lives we need to hear from God ourselves concerning voting, don’t depend on a party but trust the voice of God.
a. My children hear my voice John.10:27
John 10:27 KJV 1900
27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
b. Let the peace of God rule in your heart
Colossians 3:15 KJV 1900
15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.
Colossians 3:15 TPT
15 Let your heart be always guided by the peace of the Anointed One, who called you to peace as part of his one body. And always be thankful.
c. Judge it by the logos word
Galatians 1:8–9 KJV 1900
8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. 9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.
Point 2 he stepped out of the boat onto the water by faith
God will give you more on your way than he will before you get started
If God said it there’s enough power in what he said to bring it to pass
Isaiah 55:10–11 KJV 1900
10 For as the rain cometh down, And the snow from heaven, And returneth not thither, But watereth the earth, And maketh it bring forth and bud, That it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: 11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: It shall not return unto me void, But it shall accomplish that which I please, And it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
Point 3 The enemy assignment is to stop you mainly by causing fear
don’t be surprised if the politicians try to cause fear to rise in you, because fear is a distraction that causes faith in God to diminish.
someone right now is in a place of trusting God and the enemy is trying to make you believe that you can’t do what you already been doing. don’t let him make you fear God have got you.
a. the tempest is a storm and it arose an got Peters attention, and suddenly he didn’t believe he couldn’t do what he was already doing. This is what the enemy wants.
Storms does not change God word
point 4. Things to do to avoid being distracted by a storm
God wants you to know that he is with you in the middle of every storm, if he is not speaking it’s because it’s a test 1cor.10:13
1 Corinthians 10:13 TPT
13 We all experience times of testing, which is normal for every human being. But God will be faithful to you. He will screen and filter the severity, nature, and timing of every test or trial you face so that you can bear it. And each test is an opportunity to trust him more, for along with every trial God has provided for you a way of escape that will bring you out of it victoriously.
James 1:12 TPT
12 If your faith remains strong, even while surrounded by life’s difficulties, you will continue to experience the untold blessings of God! True happiness comes as you pass the test with faith, and receive the victorious crown of life promised to every lover of God!
2. I must die to self- it’s not about me but the focus is on Jesus and what he has done. so i must rely on him
3. Remind myself that sometimes storms comes to test us to see if we really trust God
Point 5 God loves you so much until if you do fail or fall he will pick you up
God expect you to walk by faith
even in these times God love you enough to be truthful to you and he asked Peter why did you doubt.
Closing: Test of faith

Test of Faith

When a young mother has her first babe, if it whimpers and cries she thinks that pains and diseases are about to seize it. But the grandmother, that has had the care of her own children and her children’s children, is not troubled when she hears a child cry. Now God is the everlasting Father of nations. For thousands of years he has been educating them towards manhood. There is no possible fantasy, or error, or deceit that is not perfectly familiar to him. There is not a road of prosperity or of adversity that he does not know. There is not a path that nations have ever trod, or that they will ever tread with which he is not acquainted. And, you that are distressed, where is your God? Are you men that have faith in God when the sun shines, and that have no faith in him when it is cloudy?
