And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. And all who believed were together and had all things in common. And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.
The Way of the Exile: Teaching
The Way of the Exile: Teaching
1. The Apostles taught the way of Christ after he returned to heaven.
Acts 2:22-24
“Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man attested to you by God with mighty works and wonders and signs that God did through him in your midst, as you yourselves know— this Jesus, delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men. God raised him up, loosing the pangs of death, because it was not possible for him to be held by it.
2. The teaching was verified by signs and wonders
3. The teaching of Christ carries on in Word and Spirit
Matt4.23
And he went throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction among the people.
The Way of the Exile: Fellowship
The Way of the Exile: Fellowship
1. Fellowship/Koinonia: “association, communion, close fellowship”
2. Breaking bread and radical generosity
3. We must be involved in each other’s lives and be generous with one another.
And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
The Way of the Exile: Worship
The Way of the Exile: Worship
Prayer keeps us distinct from the culture around us.
And now, Lord, look upon their threats and grant to your servants to continue to speak your word with all boldness, while you stretch out your hand to heal, and signs and wonders are performed through the name of your holy servant Jesus.” And when they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and continued to speak the word of God with boldness.
We need a boldness that comes through worship and prayer.
The Way of the Exile: Witness
The Way of the Exile: Witness
Everyday Christians found favor with non-believers, not just apostles.
The early Church knew they were a group that gathers and scatters.
We must become bold in our witness, wherever we are.
So How are we Doing?

And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he said, “Take this, and divide it among yourselves. For I tell you that from now on I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.” And he took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”
