Message
Message
As a Christian, the way we think about politics, and government must conform to scripture.
Why God and politics must be separate.
God is God and man is not. = Politics is not religion and never should be!
Why God and politics can't be separated.
because without God there would be no government.
What role does God have in forming your political ideology?
As a Christian, the way we think about politics and government must conform to scripture.
[Luke 17:20-25, 20:21-26; John 19:10-11; Acts 5:29; Romans 13:1-7]
Why God and politics must be separate.
Why God and politics must be separate.
God is God and man is not
1 In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.
God is not a political party
3 “You shall have no other gods before me.
God’s kingdom is not the kingdom of this world.
20 Being asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, he answered them, “The kingdom of God is not coming in ways that can be observed,
21 nor will they say, ‘Look, here it is!’ or ‘There!’ for behold, the kingdom of God is in the midst of you.”
22 And he said to the disciples, “The days are coming when you will desire to see one of the days of the Son of Man, and you will not see it.
23 And they will say to you, ‘Look, there!’ or ‘Look, here!’ Do not go out or follow them.
24 For as the lightning flashes and lights up the sky from one side to the other, so will the Son of Man be in his day.
25 But first he must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation.
This is what the Pharisees wanted
this is what Jesus said
36 Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would have been fighting, that I might not be delivered over to the Jews. But my kingdom is not from the world.”

Why God and politics can’t be separated
Why God and politics can’t be separated
God created and owns the government.
1 Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God.
2 Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment.
3 For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval,
4 for he is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God’s wrath on the wrongdoer.
5 Therefore one must be in subjection, not only to avoid God’s wrath but also for the sake of conscience.
6 For because of this you also pay taxes, for the authorities are ministers of God, attending to this very thing.
7 Pay to all what is owed to them: taxes to whom taxes are owed, revenue to whom revenue is owed, respect to whom respect is owed, honor to whom honor is owed.
God is our ultimate authority
10 So Pilate said to him, “You will not speak to me? Do you not know that I have authority to release you and authority to crucify you?”
11 Jesus answered him, “You would have no authority over me at all unless it had been given you from above. Therefore he who delivered me over to you has the greater sin.”
29 But Peter and the apostles answered, “We must obey God rather than men.
The preachers duty to speak on all topics
1 I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom:
2 preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching.
3 For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions,
4 and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.
5 As for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.
What role must God have in forming your political ideology?
What role must God have in forming your political ideology?
Where does, should your political ideology come from?
1 In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.
11 Jesus answered him, “You would have no authority over me at all unless it had been given you from above. Therefore he who delivered me over to you has the greater sin.”
1 First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people,
2 for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.
3 This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior,
4 who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
5 For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,
2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
8 See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.
16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
As a Christian, the way we think about politics and government (your political ideology) must conform to scripture.

Prayer:
My God and Father in Heaven we thank you that if we are in Christ that this is not our home and yet we are called to live here for a time. God we thank you that you have allowed us to live in this country and to think on these things today. WE ask that you would clear and renew our minds, that you would be our foundation and our
Political Ideology
We must think about politics the way Jesus would think about politics
10 So Pilate said to him, “You will not speak to me? Do you not know that I have authority to release you and authority to crucify you?”
11 Jesus answered him, “You would have no authority over me at all unless it had been given you from above. Therefore he who delivered me over to you has the greater sin.”
Political Identity
We must identify with political parties the way Jesus would identify with them
25 He said to them, “Then render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”
Political Inaction
We must act politically the way Jesus would act politically
21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.

Political Indecision
We must decide what team we are on
31 But he said emphatically, “If I must die with you, I will not deny you.” And they all said the same.
Mt 12.30
30 Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.
34 Jesus said to him, “Truly, I tell you, this very night, before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times.”
