Affirmation
Affirmation
Paul, while still using Abraham as an example, is make his point very clear - the law does not bring justification;
Abraham was given a promise that the world would be bless through him - through his faith and righteousness;
Abraham was promised to be the father of all nations;
So who are the heirs, it is the whole family of God, Jew and Gentile;
Paul’s point about this promise did not come through the law because Abraham was found righteous (justified) before the Mosaic Law;
So remember Abraham’s faith was his avenue to righteousness not the law or traditions.
Argument
Argument
Paul gives three arguments to verify his point;
“Inheritance by the law would void faith” there can only be one way to justification either faith or law keeping in order to inherit Abraham’s spiritual lineage;
“Inheritance by law would contradict promise” God promised a way to Him - Jesus Christ - which is a gift of grace from God, keeping the law is opposite of receiving this gift (your power vs. God’s grace);
“Inheritance by law would violate the law’s purpose” remember Romans 3:19-20 tells us that the law revealed sin, it brought an awareness;
The Book of Romans An Argument (Verses 14, 15)
The Law produces consciousness of sin, guilt, wrath, and death. That is its purpose. It cannot also serve as the means for deliverance from these.
The Book of Romans An Argument (Verses 14, 15)
Justification is by no effort of man at self-righteousness, nor by any external religious or legal observances. Justification is by faith.
