Lifting Up Christ
One of the verses Awana’s made a focus for children was Jn 3:14-15 to direct their hearts to the Lord. In ministry and leading we can be tempted to lift up many things other than Christ, such as: doctrines, Church structure, ministry methods, business practices, and even political parties; but our business should be to lift up Christ. Whether teaching on Sundays, home groups, discipling, counseling, and leading our own homes, our focus should be calling those in our care to believe in Christ and exemplify/model Christ. Whether teaching on Sundays, home groups, discipling, counseling, and leading our own homes, our focus should be calling those in our care to believe in Christ and exemplify/model Christ. There are three areas where I want to direct our thoughts:
In conversations with others: In politics, circumstances, and today’s events, remember our focus is not to expound our own opinion and thoughts. Rather we should direct others to the Lord that they may see Him plainly in these matters.
In our homes: It is very easy to lord our authority over our children, spouses, to achieve our own will and desires. However, we are called to exemplify Christ to our family in our daily life. Are we called to be a type of Christ to them?
In our ministry: In teaching and preaching, we are called to be faithful to Christ in explaining scripture to the body of believers. By being faithful to scripture, we direct the body to Christ for believe and repentance.
