God’s desire to free you from the power of Sin
7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace
8 which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence,
9 having made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Himself,
10 that in the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven and which are on earth—in Him.
The price of Redemption
To redeem is to pay a price for a person or object. In the case of our redemption, the price was the shed blood of Jesus on the cross. The blood of Jesus is required for our redemption. It is the only way for redemption.
The necessity and purpose of our redemption
Since the 1st sin (Adam and Eve) everyone has been born with a sin nature. We have all done things that we should not have done. Because we all have a sin nature and there is nothing that we can do about it on our own.
God’s holiness and absolute goodness are incompatible with sin. God does not associate with sin and can have no part in sin. Our sinful nature, therefore alienated us from sin and put us outside the boundaries of God’s intimate presence.
In God’s love he conctinually called out to man. So He sends His son to the earth, He made all the provisions for us to draw near to Him so we could enjoy the intimacy of His loving presence.
13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.
The purpose of redemption is to spare us from the consequences of sin; eternal separation from our loving Father. Our redemption make it possible for us to have eternal life.
Not only that, it also frees us from the destructive dominion that sin had over our lives. We are redeemed for eternity, and we are also redeemed that we might live victorious lives right now.
22 The Lord redeems the soul of His servants, And none of those who trust in Him shall be condemned.
A ransom paid for our release
Ransoms are often associated with kidnapping, and in the spiritual that is what happened to us. Man was kidnaped away from God by the enemy of our souls, enticed and trapped and held in bondage by Satan.
The blood of Jesus was required so that mankind might be freed from this bondage and restored to God.
Who pays the ransom for a kidnapped child? The one who loves them, the Father. The one that dearly loves that child, the Father.
It is our heavenly Father’s love for us that paid the ransom for our sins.
The ransom for a child is determined according to what the Father is capable of and willing to pay.
The ransom for us was paid with a high price. The death of Jesus.
Our ransom means we can be fully restored to intimacy with the father. We are no longer held captive by the devil. We no longer belong to him. But we have to choose to walk away from him and walk to the Father.
The bonds that held us are broken. It is up to us to step out of the shackles and chains and move toward God.
By doing so, we are believing and receiving the ransom paid by Jesus.
