Handout

A healthy focus on the Gospel affects both what you know and what you do.

Why do we see youth groups, churches, christian schools, etc who either all get along but have no real purpose or are very committed in purpose but fail to care for others? It is because we have one of these things but not both. In fact, most of us are wired to lean one way or the other. This is the Truth/Love conundrum for the believer. Yet Jesus tells us to carry the truth in love. We must allow the Gospel to be what we know and what we do.
We must be awakened to the reality of the Gospel in our own hearts and lives - re-christianized if you will. The goal of these study is that we might see the Gospel in all of it’s true beauty and live it out for the world.
Gospel Doctrine - Gospel Culture = Hypocrisy
Gospel Culture - Gospel Doctrine = Fragility
Gospel Doctrine + Gospel Culture = Power
God get’s God right and it is essential that we do the same - not that he benefits from this; but we do!
John 3:16 ESV
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
| The love of God Almighty (Gen 17:1)
1 John 4:16 ESV
So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.
| The way God loves the world

In order to understand God’s love for us, we need to have a right understanding of self.

We are not good; God is.
We do not need self discovery; we need God-discovery.
Illustrate with a friend wronging you and then you acing like it never happened. If we have a wrong view of self it will cause us to be on the defensive with God instead of simply trusting Him. (Proverbs 3:5-6)
There is a difference in agreement and belief
Understand God’s love from John 3:16
If God loved us in this way then we should love others in the same way 1 John 4:11; 1 Pet. 1:22)
