It Is Necessary That I Jesus, Go through Samaria

Introduction

John the beloved disciple writes in amplification, saying after Nicodemus had come to Jesus by night and heard the combined message simplified, of how a man must be born again of the water and the Spirit, and of how God sent His Son into the world not to condemn the world, but through him the world must be saved. After which in the land of Judah Jesus began to baptize and baptized more disciples than John the Baptist and the Baptist rejoiced greatly. And John the Baptist hearing from his disciples of the baptisms that Jesus performed, reminded his disciples that they witnessed him telling them he was not the Christ, but was sent before him as a forerunner. Therefore Jesus as the bridegroom must increase while he, John must decrease. For John, is of the earth and speaks of what must go on in the earth, but he that comes from heaven is above all, and speaks the word of God. For he’s the one that God sent and God hath not given him the Spirit by measure.

Now when Jesus learned that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus was making and baptizing more disciples than John (although Jesus himself did not baptize, but only his disciples), he left off baptizing and departed again for Galilee. For Jesus knows the treachery of envy in the hearts of the Pharisees. And going up from Judah through the land he had a need to pass through Samaria. So he came to a town of Samaria called Sychar also known as Shechem, near the field that Jacob had given to his son Joseph. And Jacob’s well was there; so Jesus, wearied as he was from his journey, sat beside the well and it was about 12 o’clock noon.

1). “Give me to drink”

John 4:7-10

7 A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give Me a drink.” 8 For His disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.

9 Then the woman of Samaria said to Him, “How is it that You, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?” For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.

10 Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.”

There was a thick prejudice lying between the Jews and the Samaritans, but we can be assured that Jesus did not share in this prejudicial behavior. Therefore we may conclude that this was a necessity of redeeming love. Here’s a little history: After the tribal division caused by Rehoboam king Solomon son, Samaria became the Capitol of Israel (the ten northern tribes) which took its name from the city built by Omri (1 Kings 16:24). It is interesting and noted that there were 19 Kings of the northern tribes and every one of them were evil; therefore, God removed them and they were carried away by the Assyrians because of their continual disobedience. And after their conquest Israel’s territory was re-colonized by the Assyrians in the reign of Esar-haddon (Ezra 2:4), the Assyrian king (2 Kings 17:18-41). The colonists were a mixed race, including five tribes or nations, each of which brought with them their own divinity, the worship of which they conjoined with the worship of Jehovah. Their only sacred books were the five books of Moses, and the later Jewish prophetical and historical books they did not receive or acknowledge, and also they did not believe in the resurrection.

But here’s Jesus, sitting by the well by divine appointment and asking the Samarian woman for a drink the water of which she is astonished. Therefore Jesus responds by saying; If you would have asked of me I would have given you living water.

2). The Woman Said; “Sir, Give Me This Water Springing up into Everlasting Life”

John 4:11-15

11 The woman said to Him, “Sir, You have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. Where then do You get that living water? 12 Are You greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank from it himself, as well as his sons and his livestock?”

13 Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, 14 but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.”

15 The woman said to Him, “Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst, nor come here to draw.”

This woman immediately was open to the offer of Jesus and did not doubt, and no arterial motive crossed her mind. But examining her motive, could there be something that she was reminded of every time she came to the well? Could there be something in reasoning why she would come in the heat of the day alone for water? Is she part of the reason why Jesus said I have a need to go through Samaria? Have you considered that God was in Christ reconciling the world unto himself and this is not just a random visit?

What Jesus offered was a fitting solution for her problem, but yet there is still an unspoken problem of which she yet concealed.

Conclusion

“Go Get Your Husband and Come Here”

John 4:16-18

16 Jesus said to her, “Go, call your husband, and come here.”

17 The woman answered and said, “I have no husband.”

Jesus said to her, “You have well said, ‘I have no husband,’ 18 for you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband; in that you spoke truly.”

Today many ministers and ministries are hindered in the deliverance ministry, because somewhere in the works it has entered into their minds that you are not supposed to call out people sin. Why this is an unethical move they think; which causes the sinner shame prompting them to enfold within themselves and go silent, for Jesus wouldn’t do that. Or would he? The problem is we have forgotten to be led by the Holy Spirit in our witnessing; there are times when we witness face-to-face and are intimidated by such thinking. The Bible says a wise man wins souls and Jesus Christ is made unto us by the Holy Spirit wisdom, and we must follow him in our witness if we are to be affective. The hardened sinner buries his conscience and continually lies to himself in order not to be affected by it, but there’s another sinner that’s trapped and experiences the weight of their conscience and refused to kill it by lying to himself. This situation is very grievous because of the wrong life choices they have made which have brought upon them this continual situation of shame. There is much to be said and prayed about in this area of witnessing and can be addressed later.

But Jesus said; “Go call your husband and bring him here.” Which is a command of which this woman was not able to do. But in wanting the solution (living water), she must be willing to confess the pollution. Jesus knows this and the word declares it; “He who hides his sin shall not prosper.” Therefore she releases her weight of sin; “I have no husband,” I don’t recall any conversation about a husband before this command. Jesus was simply saying; “If you want the solution, then you must be willing to rid yourself of the pollution.” The foundation of her prison house was shaken, for she had lived as an unprincipled woman in rebellion against God from husband to husband five times, and now the man she was living with even he was not her husband. Upon this situation some may have prompted to think these thoughts; “Hide your husband’s and hide your young men for here comes the woman with no principles in sin,” and she had to live with that. No wonder she’s was at the well alone in the heat of the day, a woman of scorn and shame. Jesus said; “Go get your husband and bring him here!” if you want this living water. Her sin was so heavy that she was willing to confess the truth in order to receive this living water of which Christ offered. In closing let me say again; “If you won’t the solution, get rid of the pollution.”

If you’re reading this and un-confessed sin and shame has kept you in rebellion against God, living a life that has caused you to be ostracized from friends and family. Then you are under divine appointment from God to hear these words. Jesus is at the well of eternal life and water waiting on you to be truthful and confess your faults to him. He already has provided for you and is not surprised at your past behavior, but what is to be totally considered by you are your choices: He is knocking at the doors of your heart . Let Him in!

Father I confess, I am a sinner in need of your saving grace which you have provided for me through Jesus Christ my Lord. I repent and ask your forgiveness, I accept Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior, renew my heart and spirit and draw me nearer to you. Fill me with your Holy Spirit and finish the work you have started in me, Amen.
