The purpose of doctrine for the individual

It leads to repentance

2 Timothy 2:25 AV

In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;

It leads to salvation

1 Timothy 4:16 AV

Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.
