Peace not war!

(Peace not war picture inserted here)
We have heard it, from our generation or generations before, but do we have the right definition of peace? Tonight we are going to look at the gift of peace (the offer). The recipients of peace and responsibilities of being a recipient and then the method of peace and results of it.
Question: When you think of peace what do you think the definition is?
According to dictionary.com here is definition:
Freedom from disturbance; tranquility
A state or period in which there is no war or a war has ended.
According to Vines bible dictionary here is bible definition:
It is the Hebrew word: Shalom
Defined as peace, harmony, wholeness, completeness, prosperity, welfare, tranquility
Our Mighty God is the God of peace, the God of eternal peace. Peace comes with division at times (Mt10:34-36). But peace is still offered to those who believe in His peace.
Matthew 10:34–35 NASB95
34 “Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35 “For I came to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law;
Matthew 10:36 NASB95
36 and a man’s enemies will be the members of his household.
God is the God of peace, God is also “just” and sometimes peace comes with a sword a sword of judgment. So as we delve into this peaceful topic, may we see what our Mighty God has to offer to us and what we should have for Him.

The gift of peace

Everyone loves to receive gifts, some more than others. Some gifts last for a short time, others for a life time. God’s gift is for all time, for eternity.
Our lesson this morning in scripture rich for that is where we learn about our Mighty God’s peace, some passages I will read, some I will reference, all are on your outline, so be sure you get one before you leave.
He is the Prince of peace (Isa9:6)
Isaiah 9:6 NASB95
6 For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.
Came as a child born of a virgin
Given as a son to take away the sin of the world. This is our Prince of peace!
That establishes perfect peace (Isa26:12, 26:3)
Isaiah 26:12 NASB95
12 Lord, You will establish peace for us, Since You have also performed for us all our works.
He establishes peace, or makes way for peace. That way was through the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ
Establishes, perfect peace, but now look to who.
Isaiah 26:3 NASB95
3 “The steadfast of mind You will keep in perfect peace, Because he trusts in You.
To the one who is of steadfast mind, whose mind is stayed on the Lord, why? Because he trusts in God, in our Mighty God the giver of eternal peace.
So that we may know He overcame the world so we may have peace (Jn16:33)
We do not need to look far to know that this world lacks external peace and oftentimes internal peace because of eternal peace, Jesus addressed that
John 16:33 NASB95
33 “These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.”
He strengthens us, blesses us, gives us peace (Ps29:11)
In a world we don’t have to look far to see that peace is needed, it is even closer to find it.
Psalm 29:11 NASB95
11 The Lord will give strength to His people; The Lord will bless His people with peace.
He is as close as belief (active obedient belief). Peace comes with strength, and blessings, and is there a greater blessing then eternal peace, eternal salvation?
Peace for those who love the law (Ps119:165)
Psalm 119:165 NASB95
165 Those who love Your law have great peace, And nothing causes them to stumble.
Peace for those who love the Word which brings faith (Rom10:17), they have great peace and nothing causes them to stumble. That is stumble outside of the light of His love, of his grace, His forgiveness as you walk in the Light (1Jn1:7)
When we have the light because of the Word and we walk in the light we walk in the power of the Holy Spirit which produces fruit in the believer.
It is the peace that is part of the Spirits fruit (Gal5:22)
Galatians 5:22 NASB95
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
It is not our fruit, it is His fruit in us, love through the Son who died for us, it is joy knowing of the eternal life we have in Him and it is peace, peace with God and peace with man. God produces the fruit in us and that fruit is to rule our heart, and that fruit will be evident too.
So, let that peace rule your heart (Col3:15)
Colossians 3:15 NASB95
15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful.
Let it rule, and let it be evident, shown, so I need to give one more verse.
Colossians 3:16 NASB95
16 Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
and further evidenced
Colossians 3:17 NASB95
17 Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.
Our mighty God’s peace, made available to all through the blood of Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit is a free gift, to those who believe and are willing to receive the gift. (expand on this)
(Transition) Gods peace, our Mighty God’s peace, peace that dwells in the believer, to be developed and matured takes some effort. So may we look at:

Peace and the believer

The believer is the dwelling place of peace (Isa32:17-18) and may we take a few minutes and look at the dwelling place and what we are to do as the dwelling place of peace.
We are the dwelling place of peace (Isa32:17-18)
Isaiah 32:17–18 NASB95
17 And the work of righteousness will be peace, And the service of righteousness, quietness and confidence forever. 18 Then my people will live in a peaceful habitation, And in secure dwellings and in undisturbed resting places;
God’s work of righteousness results in peace. It is God’s work through Jesus Christ, works of righteousness that makes you to be the righteousness of God and be at peace. We then can do service (works) of righteousness, quietness and confidence. Living in peace and security (eternal security)!
So have the mindset of peace (Rom8:6)
Romans 8:6 NASB95
6 For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace,
So, what are you going to put your mindset on, flesh or Spirit, the temporal or the eternal?
But beware, it takes some effort, not to receive it, that is all done by God, but to maintain and to grow in it.
Peace, maintaining, developing it takes effort (Heb12:14)
Hebrews 12:14 NASB95
14 Pursue peace with all men, and the sanctification without which no one will see the Lord.
Notice it says peace with all men, not just the nice guys that like you, but to those who persecute you (Mt5:10-11) those you may consider your enemy, whom Jesus calls us to love (Mt5:44).
You were sanctified, you were glorified, you were justified you were adopted, you were transferred because of Mighty God’s love and your obedient faith, so now be ready to continue in your walk of peace.
So, be ready, willing to seek and pursue it (1Pt3:11)
1 Peter 3:11 NASB95
11 He must turn away from evil and do good; He must seek peace and pursue it.
It is not an option, we need to consciously turn away from evil (repent) to hate evil (Ps97:10) (expand on this; we need to know sin, which is evil and hate it)
Seek peace, pursue peace, do good because of the peace that dwells in you! All so you and then:
When we have it, we need to sow it (Jm3:18)
James 3:18 NASB95
18 And the seed whose fruit is righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.
You having the righteousness of God to be the righteousness of God can sow seeds of righteousness in peace.
Let me ask a question, well, a rhetorical one. “do you promote things you don’t believe in?” I don’t think so, peace is worth having, peace is something we need to not only pursue, but to promote it.
We need to promote it, for it is worth having (Pro12:20)
Proverbs 12:20 HCSB
20 Deceit is in the hearts of those who plot evil, but those who promote peace have joy.
Joy in the Lord, joy from the Lord, Joy from the Mighty God who sent the Lord that made the way of peace possible to those who believe. So, are we promoting peace, proclaiming peace, displaying the peace that is within? If not, we should, because people are being deceived and they need the truth that shall make them free (Jn8:32) (Expand)
We need to be at peace with peace (Rom12:18)
Romans 12:18 NASB95
18 If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men.
Because of your faith, you have peace with God, and I will get ore into that in a minute, but because of peace with God we are to be at peace with man too. Sometimes it maybe hard, but remember that love covers a multitude of sins (1Pt4:8). So peace with others depends on you!
For we have a future when we seek peace (Ps37:37)
Psalm 37:37 NKJV
37 Mark the blameless man, and observe the upright; For the future of that man is peace.
Because of the peace of God you have, you are now found blameless, without spot or blemish, you uphold and and observe the upright as given to us in the scripture and we have that future, eternal future of peace in God with God and for God, because of God who gave us His all in giving us Jesus.

God of peace

The God of peace wants to give us peace (Php4:6-7). So, we would be remiss in not looking at how to receive the gift of peace.
First we need to know we need peace (Isa59:2; Rom6:23; Rom3:23)
Our sins, iniquities, bring on wages that we cannot pay ourselves, and we all fall short, we all sin.
From lost, condemned, eternally separated from God, destined for hell, a place God does not want us to go, showed us the way to have peace through the Son.
Then we need to know the way to have peace (Jn3:16; Rom10:9-10; Mt3:2; Jn3:5; Act2:38)
Because He loved us He sent His Son, we need to believe that, we also need that God raised him on the 3rd day.
We need to confess Him as Lord and Savior. He is God’s way to bring peace to man, eternal and internal peace.
Peace that demands repentance, for that is what John said, that is what Jesus said.
Peace that demands to be born again of water and Spirit
Peace that demands from a broken and contrite heart, a pierced heart to repent and be baptized for the forgiveness of sins.
The results of obedience (Act2:38; Act2:46; 2Cor5:17; 2Pt1:3)
Results in the gift of the Holy Spirit
When the LOrd adds to the number those being saved
When you are born a new creature, the old gone, the new come
The new that is fully equipped for life and godliness, through true knowledge
And if that were not enough (2The3:16; Rom15:13; so that you can dwell in peace (Pro1:33) and have peace that is beyond all comprehension (Php3:6-7)
Our might God wants to give you peace
2 Thessalonians 3:16 NASB95
16 Now may the Lord of peace Himself continually grant you peace in every circumstance. The Lord be with you all!
Watns to fil you will peace
Romans 15:13 NASB95
13 Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
So you can dwell in peace
Proverbs 1:33 NLT
33 But all who listen to me will live in peace, untroubled by fear of harm.”
Are we listening. This world is condemned not by Jesus, Jesus is the way to peace, but our Mighty God is just and those who do not believe are condemned.
John 3:17–18 NKJV
17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. 18 “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
Jesus invites all to come to Him who will believe
John 14:6 NASB95
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.
He wants us to have total peace, total security in Him, through Him and for Him.
(Are you right with God picture here? ) God wants you to have his peace. He tells us through the Spirit to the writer. from the writing to your heart and to your mind.
(below scripture is not on slide)
Philippians 4:6–7 NASB95
6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Are you secure in Christ Jesus today? invitation (invitation song) (Prayer)
