Why Did Jesus Become a Man 10/11/2020
Will not be here to 12:30. I can tell you that if I ever kept y'all till 12:30.
And it's on here as well.
But it doesn't sound like I'm on Douglas.
I am not owned.
I'm way off. I thought Martha tells me how I'm off.
All right. I'm going to get set up and give him a little time to. See what's going on here.
Do I need to use the pulpit mop?
I told you I was 12:30 now now, so can you record with this or you can
Okay. I want to pull it to close a lot with hit my hand knock it off or something. Okay, that'll work.
Okay. Well, we're going to get started. We're starting a new series this morning and I think we have a slide and there it is a king is coming. Now what we're going to do is we're going to talk about for the next all the way through Christmas the Nativity Story. So you say what Christmas is just about Jesus coming as a baby it why is it going to take us three months to go through all that? Well, there's a lot more in this Christmas or Nativity Story than we may think every year we sing songs about it. We decorate our homes, of course and what time of year is that? It's Christmas time. So let me ask you right now before we ever get started how many of you have already bought Christmas presents. Mk12 cuz I didn't how many of you have even thought about Christmas yet. We are, you know a lot a lot of people have thought about it. Well, we we kind of Rejoice because we know that it's the Earthly coming of the birth of Jesus is the most significant event in human history. But how often do we really focus on the story of Christmas? If we are honest we would say Christmas time for me is about shopping. More for me. It's about ordering online. I don't really go to stores but I order online in a minute. And so it's about cooking meals and having family gatherings and decorating the homes and then when the weather turns cold is all about wearing those nice bright sweaters that we all put on and all and enjoying the cold weather.
So am I saying we ought to stop doing those things and just focus on the Christmas story with no, I'm not saying that at all Christmas is a wonderful time to thank the Lord for the blessings and for our families and the show One Love for one another by giving gifts. But in the midst of all that we need to take time to remember what Christmas is really about and exactly why it happened the way that it did you ever thought about that? Why was Christ born the way the place the circumstances? Why did all of that happen? There's so much more to the Christmas story to the Nativity Story than just the birth of a child in Bethlehem. It was a moment of fulfillment. Now. We going to talk more about that in a minute, but did you know that his birth? Was the Fulfillment the culmination of hundreds of years of Prophecy. You see here we go. Again. We going back to the Old Testament. Christ was prophesied. The Messiah was prophesied where he was going to be born. How it was going to all take place. It was all prophesy seven to eight hundred years before it ever happened. Before it ever happened his coming the manner of his coming to location his ancestry his life his his birth. His death was prophesied the story that we're talkin about here the Christmas story it started in the Garden of Eden and it ended on a hill in Jerusalem. On calvary's Cross. So this is a story not only about Jesus but it's about God's people. It's a story about the need of a savior. It's a story about a sacrifice that would cover our sins Forever. This is the story. Of Salvation is what it is. Now. The series is called the king is coming. This is today's title of the sermon. So if we're going to start with Jesus and we going to talk start talking about Christmas. We need to ask a question. Why did Jesus become a man? Why did the Lord why did the god of Heaven? Use Jesus as a person to come to this earth. What? Why did he have to be a man? Can you imagine Mary when she gazed at this little newborn baby? You know any child is born is a miracle what you ladies say that especially it's a miracle any child that's born. But this child here was different. It was like this child have been set apart like none up. This child was God himself in the Flash. and so he was the son of God, but you know Mary had to have many questions such as why did I give birth to this special divine child? Why did Jesus become a man or what I want to do this morning is I want to give you five reasons. Why Jesus became a man and this is going to set up the Christmas story for us. Now. I don't have a certain passage. This this is more of a topical message here. So we going to look at a lot of passages this morning. But I put them all up on we going to put them all up on the screen for you. So you don't have to spend time in the Bible flipping flipping and flipping. So we going to put them all. Let me give you the first point. Why Jesus became a man Jesus became man to satisfy the Prophecies of the Old Testament to satisfy the Prophecies of the Old Testament. Now look at Luke 24 and verse 44 and we going to put it up here on the screen. All things must be fulfilled which was written in the law of Moses and the prophets and the Psalms concerning me. Now think about this everything said about him in the Old Testament. Had to be fulfilled in his coming. Do you know it would be impossible to write a complete christology? You could almost write a complete christology a story of Christ. Even if we did not have the New Testament I think about that you could just use the Old Testament prophecies concerning Jesus. They spoke frequently about a king that was coming every page from Genesis to Malachi has this anticipation of a coming Messiah. Now, we all know that the profits that they were written by different writers at various times and yet together they give us this glimmer of hope of a Saviour or King who would come to rescue his people. You know, how many prophecies there are in the Old Testament concerning Christ 300. 300 n did you know that every single one of them were for filled to the T? Every single one of them over 300. I'm just going to show you some of them look at Isaiah. 714 now listen to this Isaiah 7:14 Now they can't see her kind of tantalizing. I listen to therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign and I remember Isaiah wrote this 800 years before Christ was born. He said the Lord himself will give you a sign behold the Virgin shall conceive and bear a son and shall call his name what Emmanuel what does Emmanuel mean God With Us? 800 years before he was born Isaiah prophesied this look what Micah says 700 years before Christ was born but you Bethlehem ephrathah though. You are little among the thousands of Judah get out of you shall come forth to me. The one to be ruler and Israel who's going forth or from of old from Everlasting 700 years. He just told right there where he was going to be born 700 years before it happened or it gets even better. Jeremiah prophesied that the birthplace of this coming one would suffer a massacre of infants. Look at what Jeremiah 31:15 says thus says the Lord a voice was heard in Ramah lamentation and bitter weeping Rachel weeping for her children refusing to be comforted for her children because they are no more. Jeremiah prophesied a massacre of children. Now. Look what Matthew to 16 through 18 says it reveals the Fulfillment of Jeremiah's prophecy. Listen to this then haired when he saw that he was deceived by the wise men was exceedingly angry and he sent forth and put to death all the male children who were in Bethlehem and in all this District's from 2 years old and under according to the time when she had determined from the wise men that listen to this then was fulfilled. What was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet will what did Jeremiah say a voice was heard in Ramah lamentation weeping and great morning Rachel weeping for her children refusing to be comforted because they are no more 700 years before Jeremiah prophesied that they've been be a massacre of children, and we see in Matthew to that it indeed happy. Friends, you can trust the Bible. Did you know that I hope you know, you can trust the Bible more than 300 Old Testament prophecies about Christ have been fulfilled. There's a mathematician. He calculated the possibility of all these prophecies being fulfilled by one person and the possibility was one in 80 billion. I think about that. Another gentleman said this he said 1 and 80 billion is like this. He said you take the entire state of, Texas. And you put silver dollars over the entire State 4 ft deep. And you take one of those silver dollars and paint it red and put it somewhere within the borders of Texas and you blindfold a person and tell them they have one choice to pick that red silver dollar. What are the odds of that happening? 1 and 80 billion but it happened exactly the way the Bible said. So what are we saying? Jesus became a man to satisfy the Prophecies of the Old Testament calls if those prophecies have not come true. What could we say about the Bible is untrue. You can't trust it. Even if one of them were wrong. You would say we cannot trust it have been fulfilled. So Jesus became a man to satisfy the Prophecies of the Old Testament number two. Jesus became a man. To show us the father. He became a man to show us the father. Now look at it in John chapter 14 verses 8 through 9 when Philip was talking with Jesus. He said Lord show us the father and it is sufficient for us. Watch what Jesus said Jesus said to him? Have I been with you so long and yet you have not known me Phillip he who has seen me has seen the father. What does that mean? That means that Jesus was God in body form. He became a man that God became a man in the person of Jesus. So if you want to know who God is you need to know who Jesus is because Jesus teaches you who got is that's exactly what it's saying. When you see Jesus doing what he did in the gospels. You are watching God at work. This is God working. Now you want to know God within you get need to get to know Jesus. That's why the only way to become a Christian is to know Jesus because Jesus is the only way to God. He said that himself. I'm the way the truth and the life no man comes to the father but through me so Jesus is God. So he became a man to show us exactly what the father was like. Well number three this move quickly or it's going to be 12:30 number 3. Jesus became a man. To save us from our sins. Now we all would agree with that. Look what 1st Timothy 1:15 says and this is Paul writing here and look at this. This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance that Christ Jesus came into the world to save Sinners of whom I am chief. You see we had to have a God man to save us he had to be 100% God when she was but he also had to be 100% man which she was So here's what happened on the cross Jesus lifted one hand up toward heaven and touch the hand of God. He reads one hand down toward Earth and touch the hand of man and he has reconciled us together. That's what he did and now he stands with his arms outstretched because he welcomes everyone to come to him for salvation. Jesus became a man to save us from our sins. If Christ had not come where would Humanity be we just be in a downward spiral hopeless trudge toward despair, but got interrupted that did he not he shut down the cycle of sin by sending Jesus to be our savior. If you've never put your trust in Christ, you cannot know him and without knowing him you cannot know God and without accepting him. You cannot be forgiven. That's just as plain as I can put it and that's exactly right. So the purpose of his coming was to forgive us. For Marceline's so what are we saying so far? Well, he became man to satisfy the prophecies over 300 up many. Did he became a man to show us the father? If you seen me you seen the father. We need to know what God is like with the Untouchable had to be touchable done normal had to be normal and Jesus was that he showed us the father and then he became a man. Of course to save us from our he had to be your man had play 100% God and he was number four. Jesus became a man. to sympathize with our weaknesses I want you to look at this and Hebrews 4 15 and 16. What a wonderful to versus it is. we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are yet without sin Let Us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and find Grace to help in time of need you see You know why you can go to Jesus with whatever is going on in your life. And you know why you can know that he hears you and understand. Because he was a man too. And he experienced the same thing that we all go through except in a much deeper way. You see Jesus can sympathize with our weaknesses because he was tempted as we are yet. What did he did not send that's the Perfection that we need it. That's why he could die for mankind. He became a man so that God would become touchable and approachable and reachable. He is god with us Emmanuel and whatever you've been through you can be sure that God has been down that road himself and he was you ever feel like you've been mistreated. So was Jesus you ever been discouraged so was Jesus people as anyone ever mistreated you in such a way that you just felt like that your life didn't even matter. Jesus came to his own and his own received him not he's been down every road that you've been down ever been to you ever been grieve so bad. You just think that you're about to die. What did Jesus say? That's the father that he had forsaken him on the cross. Why has Thou forsaken me forsaken by his own never felt forsaken. So did he you see he has experienced everything that we have experience and when we pray, He promises to give us himself because he has been where we are and he has experience that the friends if you're down and out if you going through trials and tribulation, all he gives us his presence. He says I'll never leave you nor forsake you he gives us his perspective that he's in control of everything and we don't have to just give up and lose hope because we know that God has a purpose and a plan for our life. He gives us his promises. I'll be a friend that sticketh closer than a brother. He gives us that and then he gives us the people of God to surround us to encourage us and the Spurs on in our Christian Life. That's what he left. You see, Jesus became a man so that he can sympathize with our weaknesses. Thank God that he became a man and was tempted as we are without sin number 5. We're going to close. Jesus became a man to secure Our Hope Of Heaven now look at it in Colossians chapter 1 and verse 27. Look what it says. It says the damn God will to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles and here's a mystery to watch this. Which is Christ in you the hope of glory. When did you know until Christ comes to live in your heart? That you're not even fit to live in heaven. Do you know that none of us would ever be fit to live in heaven without Christ in our heart. The only way we can live in heaven is for Christ to live in us through the Holy Spirit. There's one way to God you can come to God by coming to Jesus because Jesus is God and Jesus is the one who paid the penalty of our sins and friends. If we live until he comes back one day. We going to hear that trumpet and we're going to go up to meet him in the air and if we die before he comes back our bodies going in the grave, but our spirit is going to be with him whether we live or die we going to be with him a man. We're going to be with him. And so almighty God has for filled all that. He has said about Christ first coming 300 prophecies all of them in for Phil don't you think he's going to fulfill all the prophecies concerning his second coming as well. I guarantee you he will in the same precise way. Let me in. Let me in with a little story here little boy is 10 years old. His name is Charlie. He was out out of school for Christmas. Info this family that he was a part of they lived in London in the city and they had decided to spend the holiday in the countryside. So he was happy to to leave the dirty Streets of London where he can go out and smell the snow in the fresh air of the countryside will one day while they was out his mom invited him to go for a drive because it had started snowing and he wanted to get out and he wanted to see the snow and all and they got in the car he and his mom and it kind of snake down this little twisty Road and then all the sudden the snow picked up and it was a terrible snowstorm and she became anxious and the snow was coming down and she kind of took a curve and the car slid off in the ditch. Well, he got out he tried to push the car and she was giving it gas but they just kept digging their hole bigger and bigger and they couldn't get out. Well the mom remembered that they had passed the house about a half mile down the road. They walked and went and knocked on the door. And this lady said well, of course you can come in and she said you just warm yourself. She said you can use my phone. She has some chocolate chip cookies are for the little boy. She gave the lady some tea and she said you can stay right here until you can get in touch with someone to come get you now, you say what what's so big about that? That's not that big of a story anyone would do that. There's someone to come knock on their door with a lady and a little boy, but that woman at that house. She spent the rest of her life telling this story to as many people as she could she told it a thousand times and the way she always started out was it was the day hey. That royalty visited my house. And people would ask him say what do you mean by royalty? Because those two strap Travelers there that were stranded. One was Queen Elizabeth. And the other it was a little boy that we call Prince Charles. And she said royalty had come to her house. Well, probably if someone like that come to our house, we wouldn't forget it either. But friend something more wonderful than that has happened to us. You see the message of the nativity? As that royalty has visited us. A king has come. And he is knocked on our door. And he she is moved into our neighborhood and this is King Jesus. Almighty God is here and he has us on his heart today. You see the Bible says we don't serve a God who is far away. We serve a God, who is it close at hand? And he's so close that he became a man to dwell Among Us. He became a man and he is our savior. The Christ of Christmas Is Here Jesus became a man to satisfy the Prophecies of the Old Testament. He became a man to show us the father. He became a man to save us from our sins. He became a man to sympathize with our weaknesses and he became a man so that we would have the security and the hope of Heaven. Amen or let's pray father we do. Thank you and praise you and love you today. Lord we just scratching the surface of this Christmas Story. Lord the Nativity Story, we're going to learn so much Lord of why things happened. When they happened in Lord how your hand is all over this Christmas Story Lord. We thank you today for Jesus. We thank you that we can trust the Bible because every single prophecy has been fulfilled. We thank you Lord that because of Jesus we can know what God is like the Untouchable became touchable. The unknowable became knowable because of Jesus and Lord. We thank you for saving us from our sins. We've already talked about that as we had the Lord's Supper today for your death on the cross for we thank you that you sympathize with our weakness that we can come to you no matter what we going through and we know that you understand and if you're going to help us and if you going to send people in our life to encourage us Lord, we thank you for that that you can sympathize with our weaknesses the Lord most of all this morning. We don't have to fear death. We know Lord the absent from the body is present with the Lord Lord. We thank you for that. We thank you for the hope that we have at Christmas time. Help us all to meditate upon this and Lord speak to our hearts as we study this Nativity Story forcing Christ's name. I do pray. Amen.
