Can We Build It?
Can We Build It?
Bob the Builder. Yes We Can.
Do you remember Bob the Builder?
Can Jesus Build His Church Through Us?
Yes, He Can!!
How Does Jesus Build The Kingdom of God Through Us?
What is our part?
Hear The Word -
For the last year, with breaks for Advent and Easter, we have worked through the teachings of Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount. Now Jesus says, everyone then who hears these words…what words? The words that we have been studying for the last year.
The thing that stuck out to me is this- We have to put ourselves in a position to hear the words of Jesus.
We need the Word - Daily -
We all need to do our best to get into the Word of God daily.
It might be sunny in your life right now but I can promise you that the rain, the flood, and the wind, they are coming to beat on your house; your life.
We need the Word of God to make the longest trip on earth
…From our head to our heart.
The wise person, which we will talk about here in a minute, does the work of getting the Scripture not only in their head but into their heart.
We do this by reading, mediating on and obeying the Word.
It is obeying the Word of God that helps take the Words of Jesus from the head to the heart.
The head says, “Well Jesus said, “To Love our enemy as yourself.” To me, that seems crazy, but hey if it works and I make my enemy a friend that would be great.
So you obey and sure enough you have a new friend. You keep putting the word into action, Jesus is faithful to His Word and in time the word makes the journey to your heart. You believe it. You trust it. You even releon it. This is where not only does your head know what Jesus has command it but your heart believes that Jesus will do what he said he would do and you act on it.
On of the major reasons, we need the word not only in our heads by knowing the content of the Bible but also in our hearts is because a lot of what the Bible says does not make sense to the head.
For example, blessing those that curse you or giving all you have away so that you can become rich. None of these things make sense to the head. They only make sense in the heart.
When we realize that we have more in common with our enemy than we want to admit, that is when the heart can bless our enemy.
Transition = I want you know that life will come after you.
Know Life Will Come After You -
In
The Story of the Wise Man
the rains fell, the flood came and the winds blew.
We all will suffer set backs and disappointments.
In that sense, we are all the same. We won’t go through the exact same set backs or the exact same disappoints but we all will through some type.
You can’t get away from it, but the wise person looks at their situation, prays about their situation, mediates on the Word of God and how it applies to their situation then applies the appropriate principle from a story or one of the commands of God and waits for the Lord to move on their behalf.
In
The Story of the Foolish Man,
the rains fell
The foolish man looks at their situation, they won’t pray about it. They won’t mediate on God’s Word and don’t do it.
We can see why the Bible might call this person foolish. In fact the Greek word for foolish is Mooros. This is the root for our word moron. So I don’t know maybe it might not be a stretch to read that part of the passage like this…And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like the moron who built his house on the sand....
Anyway, the point is that...
We all will suffer set backs and disappointments.
You can’t get away from it.
Notice the progression of the storm
First the rain fell. Okay I don’t like the rains of life but I can probably get through it.
The Floods Come - Sometime life likes to pile on. You go through one bad situation after another. The rain of of life just keeps coming down and down and down and it builds up to the point that you are overwhelmed. You’re flooded!
Then to make matters even worse the winds blow which makes the rain and the flooding even worse.
Finally, the last progression, not only was it raining, not only did it flood, not only did the wind blow but it all came and beat on YOU! This all happened not on the other side of the planet or country, or state or county or town or to the neighbors house. It was your house. Your life has troubles. Your life has hardships. You! Your life has been destroyed.
But I have good news for you! You can rebuild! The Lord will help you. All you have to do is...
Make A Choice -
You know the rain is coming. You know the flood is coming. You know the wind is going to blow and it is going to effect you. The question becomes what are you going to do about it.
Are we going to do what Jesus has taught us?
Some will hear the word and do it.
Some will hear the word and won’t do it.
Encouragements
Today, I want to encourage you.
Get to know the Word
of God, the Written Word of God but also the Logos, Jesus Christ.
I want to encourage you once you get closer to Lord and His Word than you are right now. Do your best, the power of the Holy Spirit will be there to empower you to do what the Word teaches and commands.
Build your life on the Rock.
Be the person that can stand when the storms of life come when others are falling you can stand fast and stand tall in Christ!
