Our Response to God’s love
A passion to obey God
1. Last week looked at “Our response to God’s love” “A passion to know Him”
2. To know God, is to know His greatness, His goodness. There is also a passion to obey Him.
3. To obey God is a living out what we know to be true, right, and good. It is following the Lord daily, doing and saying what He would do.
a. Its displaying the truth of God in what we do in our lives every day of our lives.
b. Obedience is a total submission to what God desires, not what we desire out of our own lust, greed and pride.
2. God places a high value on obedience. I Sam 15:22 James 1:22
a. The obedient way in which we live our lives is the ultimate expression of worship and service.
3. A passion to obey God is expressed in a Christian’s life.
a. A passion to know the Bible.
b. A Passion to live in righteousness.
c. A passion to receive daily direction from the Lord.
d. All 3 of these thing work together. The more we know God’s word, the greater our understanding will be for righteousness, and how the Holy Spirit works in our lives.
e. The more we trust the Holy Spirit, the, more He reminds us of God’s word and leads us into the paths of righteousness.
f. The more we desire to live in right standing before God, the more we will read His word and listen to His voice.
The Knowledge of the Bible
Psalm 119:103-105
1. To obey God means we have to know what He requires of us, we must know His word. We know longer live under the law, we live under grace. But we know that God’s word has not changed.
a. We have to dig deep, week God’s word and obey it.
A Desire for righteousness
1. Throughout the Bible we find the word righteousness. Very simply, living in righteousness is doing what is right before the Lord.
a. It’s keeping His commandments. It is turning away from sin and towards what is holy and acceptable before the Lord.
Herbrews 12:1-2
Weight: burden.
b. Sin produces guilt, which is a terrible burden to the soul.
c. Sin is also a snare to us, taking us captive and holding us back from doing those things that would bring god’s blessing in our lives.
d. It’s all up to us and with-in the ability of our wills, to choose not to sin. Once we have made the decision with-in our wills, the Holy Spirit will enable us with the consistency and power over sin.
e. Laying aside sin and pursuing obedience and righteousness.
Trusting and obeying the Holy Spirit
1. To have a passion for obedience is to have a desire to receive direction from the Holy Spirit daily.
a. To obey is to walk in His way, step by step, trusting that God is leading you and that He will correct you if you should in some way not do as He tells you.
Observing what God is doing: We can’t go through life with tunnel vision. We have to catch the big picture of what God is doing in our own lives and the lives of those around us, and the whole world.
Asking God, What is my role?
As we see what God is doing our desire needs to be, what does the Lord want out of me? What is my next step? What does the Lord want me to do and say?
PS 141:3-4
2. Our passion to obey God increases the more we experience God’s love at work in our lives. To know God’s love is to know that He will never lead into any activity that will bring you harm spiritually.
a. The more you know God’s love the more you will have a desire to obey Him.
b. Our love for God compels us to obey Him.
James 1:22-25
