Intro

Fun facts about Noah:
He had kids at 500 years old
He had 3 sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth
His grandpa was Methuselah who was the oldest person to ever live
The ark could hold 1300 shipping containers
Noah and his family were on the ark for over a year
Noah was the first alcoholic ever
Noah lived to be 950 years old, 350 years after the flood
Noah’s great grandfather, Enoch, is one of two people in the Bible who never died
Nearly 300 cultures around the world have a flood story in their history
Genesis 6:5–13 KJV 1900
And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord. These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God. And Noah begat three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth. And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.
Summarize and give context
Nephilim and Goliath in v4
Then God gives Noah the specifications to build the ark and what to do and how to do it.
skip down to verse 22 then the next chapter
Genesis 6:22–7:1 KJV 1900
Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he. And the Lord said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation.

1. God Knows (v. 5)

So last week we started with Adam. And how Eve and his sin, caused the entire human race to fall into a terrible curse of sin, suffering, and death. Of course then Adam and eve had Cain and Abel and Cain killed Abel. But Adam and Eve had another son, seth, and Noah comes down this line of generations. So Adam is Noah’s great great great great great great great grandad. Adam could’ve known Noah’s father, Lamech
So we are not super far along into the history of the world yet. We look at these generations in the previous chapter and and see that there were so many that lived to be hundreds and hundreds of years old. Anybody know why they lived for so long?
Genesis 1:28 KJV 1900
And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
Humans were commanded to multiply and fill up the earth, so they needed a long time to accomplish that. Does anyone know why we don’t live to be that long today?
Cause the earth is full! And because the Lord said we didn’t need to anymore
Genesis 6:3 KJV 1900
And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.
So some people believe that this could mean man would live to be around 120 years after this, but it’s not the maximum or minimum. For example, Isaac, Abrahams son lived 180 years.
And then we come to verse 5 *read it*
a) He sees
Omnipresence and omniscience are kind of intertwined right.
**Illustration about my 18th surprise birthday party at my house and how I was completely surprised
— God is never surprised, He knows everything that has happened and is going to happen
So we are just 10 generations down from Adam, and man is already completely evil. It says that there was evil in their hearts continually.
Proverbs 15:3 KJV 1900
The eyes of the Lord are in every place, Beholding the evil and the good.
Hebrews 4:13 KJV 1900
Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.
We have to do = give an account for
in verse 5 It says that God knew their imaginations and their thoughts.
So sin is not limited to just actions, what God can see physically. it includes our thoughts, what God sees in our heart, mentally and physically
So what is sin, define sin
**Do parks sin chant**
b) He commands
He had specific commands for Noah.
Genesis 6:14–21 KJV 1900
Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch. And this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits. A window shalt thou make to the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish it above; and the door of the ark shalt thou set in the side thereof; with lower, second, and third stories shalt thou make it. And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die. But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons’ wives with thee. And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee; they shall be male and female. Of fowls after their kind, and of cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the earth after his kind, two of every sort shall come unto thee, to keep them alive. And take thou unto thee of all food that is eaten, and thou shalt gather it to thee; and it shall be for food for thee, and for them.
Theres a lot of specific requests in there that Noah has to follow. and in the next verse it says that Noah did all that God had commanded him.
He followed all of these specific commands, he did the will of God.
The way God spoke to Noah was audibly, just as me talking to you. And God still wants to talk to us today, but not in the same way. God speaks today through His word.
God has specific things for us to do as well, and he tells us what he expects of us in the New Testament.
Here are some terms that we need to understand when studying the bible.
Revelation (revealing)- God communicates truth to man that was previously unknown and unknowable.
Inspiration- God’s breathed truth
Preservation- God protecting and extending that truth to every generation
Translation- man rendering that truth into different languages
Illumination- Holy Spirit helping man to understand that truth
When you’re about to read the Bible, man pray before hand and ask the Holy Spirit to help you understand what you’re reading and how to apply it to your life.
What you are not praying for is a new revelation or new word. God has already revealed all the divine truth He wants to reveal in the Bible. So we are not asking for new revelation, but we are simply asking for help in understanding the revelation that has already been given to us.
c) He hears
Not only does God know and see and command, but he hears. He hears us.
Prayer is such an awesome thing, listen to this verse:
Revelation 5:8 KJV 1900
And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints.
Explain^
Romans 8:34 KJV 1900
Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.
Explain^
Romans 8:26 KJV 1900
Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
Explain^
So prayer is such an important thing that Jesus and the Holy Spirit both pray over you. And God will hear your prayers.
But, listen to what the Bible says.
Psalm 66:18 KJV 1900
If I regard iniquity in my heart, The Lord will not hear me:
This is why I talk about repentance so often, because repentance should be a daily thing.
I quote this verse often, it should be one you have engrained in your mind and on your heart by now.
1 John 1:9 KJV 1900
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
So God knows everything about us. He sees our actions and our thoughts and he hears our prayers. But he also gives us a choice.

2. Noah Chooses (v. 9)

Have you ever had to make a hard decision? You had to make a choice?
*take answers
**illustration of peeing on a guys truck and having the choice to fess up to it or not
Everything that I do in life is not predetermined. Yall understand that?
God does not predetermine in his head what shirt I’m gonna put on in the morning or what I’m gonna eat for breakfast, or anything like that. It is the same way with salvation, God does not predestine some people to heaven and some people to hell.
2 Peter 3:9 KJV 1900
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
He wants every person to be saved, but he gives them a choice to accept Him or not.
And we have a choice to obey Him or not.
Noah had a
a) Choice to follow the world
The Bible says that the world during that time was so terribly evil.
Matthew 24:36–39 KJV 1900
But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
When Jesus was speaking of the end times and how terrible the world will be, he compared it to the time of Noah, because those people were so evil.
So think about this for a second.
Through process of elimination, logic, looking at his age and the ages of his sons mentioned in this passage, we know it took Noah anywhere from 50 to 100 years to build the Ark.
Imagine, you’re like 500 years old. God tells you to build this gigantic boat, because he is going to destroy the earth because people are evil, with water from the sky.
You’re 500 years old
It has never rained on the earth before
You have to build a gigantic wooden building that no one has ever heard of before.
We can assume that Noah and his family did not live alone in the middle of no where. Humans are not usually hermits, usually.
So imagine when Noah starts to build this thing, what the people around him would begin to think.
An invisible god, told you that he is going to destroy the earth with water from the sky because we are evil. It literally sounds insane.
And the fact that its going to take 50 to a hundred years to build this thing adds to the difficulty.
So here’s a couple observations.
Doing God’s will is sometimes confusing and we don’t understand it.
Doing God’s will can take a long time.
Doing God’s will can affect those around us. (Noah’s family)
Doing God’s will can result in others mocking us.
But God will deliver on His promises.
We have a choice. We can disregard God and His word completely and not obey at all. We can partially obey God. Or we can completely obey God.
If Noah had not obeyed God, him and his family would have died. If Noah would have partially obeyed God and built half of the ark, him and his family would have died. But because he obeyed God completely and did exactly what he said, him and his family lived.
God delivered on his promises.

3. God Delivers (8:16)

Have you ever made a promise that you broke or somebody made a promise to you that they broke?
At one point i was obsessed with Dominos pizza, explain mess up on buffalo pizza always forget the sauce
explain during covid having food delivered and always missing something
God always delivers on His promises
a) Disastrous promises
God said that He would destroy the world. And He did. He said He will destroy the world again, so we can believe that He will.
2 Peter 3:3–13 KJV 1900
Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.
Explain^
b) Beautiful promises
Genesis 9:9–13 KJV 1900
And I, behold, I establish my covenant with you, and with your seed after you; And with every living creature that is with you, of the fowl, of the cattle, and of every beast of the earth with you; from all that go out of the ark, to every beast of the earth. And I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth. And God said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth.
The rainbow is His promise to never destroy the earth again with water, but he will destroy it with fire.
c) Final promise
Revelation 22:20 KJV 1900
He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.
There are all sorts of promises in the Bible, from the fact that he said I will never leave you nor forsake you to nothing can separate you from the love of God. But one of the most important promises is His last one. That He will one day return.
