Church is essential for the body.

Observation - a great deal of diversity in a church

Observation 1 Cor 12:13, 18 - Baptism - Placing us into a local body or church.

Why did God make the local church a spiritual body? Unified through diversity.

God put diversity in the church to:

I. To eliminate ungodly barriers 1 Cor 12: 12-14

A. Race - Eph 2:13, Gal 3:28, Col 3:11

II. To ensure a community of faith 1 Cor 12:15-28

A. There should be interdependence between the body parts.

III. To establish order 1 Cor 12:27-31
