The glory of the Lord is a fearful thing in the face of sin:
Exodus 16:7 – and in the morning you will see the glory of the Lord, because he has heard your grumbling against him. Who are we, that you should grumble against us?”
Exodus 24:17 – To the Israelites the glory of the Lord looked like a consuming fire on top of the mountain.
God’s glory is seen in His goodness and mercy
Exodus 33:18-19 (NIV)
18 Then Moses said, “Now show me your glory.” 19 And the Lord said, “I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the Lord, in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.
Psalm 115:1 – Not to us, O Lord, not to us but to your name be the glory, because of your love and faithfulness.
Glory is something we give to God by our attitudes and words
1 Chronicles 16:24-29 (NIV)
24 Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples. 25 For great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods. 26 For all the gods of the nations are idols, but the Lord made the heavens. 27 Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and joy in his dwelling place. 28 Ascribe to the Lord, O families of nations, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength, 29 ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name. Bring an offering and come before him; worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness.
Psalm 29:2 – Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness.

Romans 4:20 – Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God,
God’s glory is seen in the works of his hands
Psalm 19:1 – The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
Isaiah 6:3 – And they were calling to one another: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.”
Romans 11:36 – For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen.
God’s glory stands in contrast to any earthly glory
Isaiah 40:6 – A voice says, “Cry out.” And I said, “What shall I cry?” “All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field.
Seeing God’s glory brings us to worship in holy fear
Ezekiel 1:28 – Like the appearance of a rainbow in the clouds on a rainy day, so was the radiance around him. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord. When I saw it, I fell facedown, and I heard the voice of one speaking.
Ezekiel 3:23 – So I got up and went out to the plain. And the glory of the Lord was standing there, like the glory I had seen by the Kebar River, and I fell facedown.
Luke 2:9 – An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.
2 Corinthians 4:4-6 (NIV)
4 The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. 5 For we do not preach ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake. 6 For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.
Glory is something we give to God by our actions
John 15:8 – This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.
John 17:4 – I have brought you glory on earth by completing the work you gave me to do.
Romans 3:7 – Someone might argue, “If my falsehood enhances God’s truthfulness and so increases his glory, why am I still condemned as a sinner?”
1 Corinthians 10:31 – So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
2 Corinthians 1:20 – For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.
God’s glory is, or should be, reserved for Him alone
Isaiah 48:11 – For my own sake, for my own sake, I do this. How can I let myself be defamed? I will not yield my glory to another.
2 Corinthians 4:15-17 (NIV)
15 All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God. 16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 17 For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.
Revelation 4:9 – Whenever the living creatures give glory, honor and thanks to him who sits on the throne and who lives for ever and ever,

Isaiah 42:8 – “I am the Lord; that is my name! I will not give my glory to another or my praise to idols.
