Faith In Jesus

26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

Theme
A. Faith is an constant outlook of trust and dependence toward God.
Quote: Oswald Chambers author of a book titled “My Utmost for His Highest”
Wrote: “Faith never knows where it is being led, but it loves and knows the One Who is leading,”
The Bible Knowledge Commentary II. Serve with Compassion (Chap. 2)

One who is properly related to the Bible is also properly related to the body of Christ. He who stands with confidence serves with compassion. James just made it clear that true religion finds an outlet in service, a service which demands that a believer learn to accept others without prejudice and to assist others without presumption.

B. The beginning of chapter 2 James had become increasingly specific and direct in his admonitions and instructions.
He had become displeased with the inconsistencies among the brethren.
And he points out the attitudes these believers shown towards others and complained of their failure to act accordingly as they should.
The overview of the first thirteen verses James points out the need of accepts for others.
He addresses three principal natures Christian’s should display in acceptance of others, he says how we should show 1. Courtesy to all (2:1-4); 2. How should have Compassion for all (2:5-9); 3. And Consistency in all (2:10-13).
C. In our text James inspired by the Spirit of the Lord gives some examples how we Assist others (2:14-26)
Point 1: Expression of True Faith (2:14-17)
James opens up in (v.14) with moral unity by presenting a strong, but simple question “What doth it profit,”
The emphasis of James is not the true nature of faith, but on the false claim of faith.
James is condemning the falsified, deceitful boast of faith.
He says such “faith” does no “good”; there is no “profit”
Application:
A falsified, deceitful faith is worthless because it is all talk with no walk.
It is an habitual empty boast, when someone claims to be a Christian, testifies to having the need for God’s recovery service.
But you still smell, walk and talk like the world.
Listen to what Jesus asks in a parable in Matt. 21:28-33
5. Genuine faith is evidence by works, claiming to have faith is not enough.
Summary of Expression of True Faith (vv. 15-16)
Faith in and of itself with no evidence of action, is dead.
Work less faith is worthless faith;
Point 2: Evidence of True Faith (2:18-20)
A. “Evidence” in the Greek term denotes “putting to the test,” “examining for the purpose of proof,” “bringing to conviction.” Thus, a well-grounded and assured CONVICTION

18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.
