Why Does Bad Things Happen To Good People?
Why Does Bad Things Happen To Good People?
Tragedy Into Blessing;
Years ago in Scotland, the Clark family had a dream. Mr. Clark and his wife worked and saved, making plans for their nine children and themselves to travel to the United States.
It had taken years, but they finally saved enough money for the whole family on a new liner to the United States. The entire family was filled with anticipation and excitement about their new life.
However, seven days before their departure, the youngest son was bitten by a dog. The doctor stitch the young boy’s leg up, but hung a yellow sheet on the Clark’s door. Because of the possibility of rabies, they were being quarantined for fourteen days.
The family dreams were dashed. They would not be able to make the trip to America as they had planned. The father, filled with disappointment and anger, stomped to the dock to watch the big ship depart without the Clark family.
The father shed tears of disappointment and cursed both God and His Son Jesus Christ for their misfortune. Five days later, the tragic news spread throughout Scotland. The mighty ship Titanic had sunk. The unsinkable ship had sunk, taking hundreds of lives with it.
The Clark family was to have been on that ship, but because the youngest son had been bitten by a dog, they were left behind in Scotland. When Mr. Clark heard the news, he hugged his son and thanked him for saving the family.
Most of all he asked God to forgive him, and thanked Him for saving their lives and turning what he had felt was a tragedy into a blessing.
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
I want everyone just to reflect on this illustration this morning.
Everyone in this church building this morning has asked, God the question why?
We have all asked “Why Does Bad Things Happen To Good People?”
First of all there are no good people in this world.
We are all Sinners!
We are all sinners, By Birth and by Choice!
We all have the Adam Sin Nature!
Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
There are people that sin less then others.
There are people who’s morals are better than others.
There are people who’s faith is stronger than others.
People in general are not good.
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
There is no where in the Bible that says, once you accept the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal savior, that everything will be perfect.
There is nothing that say’s, that your going to be rich and prosperous.
There is not in the Bible that say’s, you are always going to be healthy and never be sick.
The Bible tell’s us that as a Christian, that we will suffer for our believes.
Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.
And you ask, why’s that.
If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.
If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.
Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.
But all these things will they do unto you for my name’s sake, because they know not him that sent me.
So, let’s go this question, why does God allow bad things, pain and suffering, to happen to the ones who accepted His Son Jesus Christ.
As I said above, Jesus Himself said we will suffer pain, suffering, and sometimes even death for our belief in Him.
We have physical pain because it let’s our bodies no when we are sick, and in the need of medical attention.
God allows pain and suffering, because we are not in His will.
God allows pain and suffering, because we are living in sin and He is trying to get us back on track.
Remember God, will chasten His children.
For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?
Sometimes it’s a test of our faith in Him.
Look at Job.
Sometimes it’s to teach us humility.
And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.
For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me.
And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.
Sometime we will never understand the why, we just have to have faith and trust in Him to revel it to us so, we can understand.
